(Charlotte-jm) -- Chad Knaus won’t be on top of the pit box next season. Hendrick Motorsports promoted Knaus to vice president of competition. Knaus won seven championships with Jimmie Johnson before becoming crew chief for William Byron in 2019.

 

(Undated-jm) -- Three Cup Series crew chiefs and four Xfinity crew chiefs were fined for lug nut violations following this weekend’s races at Las Vegas. Cup Series Crew Chiefs for Kurt Busch, Matt DiBenedetto and John Hunter Nemechek were each fined $10,000. Xfinity Crew Chiefs for Ross Chastain, Riley Herbst, Harrison Burton and Austin Cindric were each fined $5,000.

Nick Foles announced as Bears starter Sunday against the Colts

(Chicago-cf)-- Could the Mitch Trubisky era in Chicago be over? Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy made the announcement today that Nick Foles will be the starter for this Sunday against the Colts. Trubisky threw an interception against the Falcons in the 2nd quarter in week 3 which led to him being pulled for Foles. Foles has a record of 26-22 in his career. 

 

 

(Rosemont-cf)-- The Big Ten won’t be back on the field until Oct. 24, but they are back in the polls. In the latest poll rankings there are 4 Big Ten Teams ranked in the top 25, without playing a single game so far this season. The highest ranked Big Ten team is Ohio State at 6. Also ranked is Penn State(10) Wisconsin(19) and Michigan(23). 

 

 

(Urbana-cf)-- Fighting Illini Sophomore Wide Receiver, Edwin Carter has entered the transfer portal. Carter, who played just 11 snaps in his career in Champaign in 2018, caught two touchdowns and announced his decision via Twitter late last night.

(Undated-jm) -- The Major League Baseball regular season wrapped up over the weekend and the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox are all making a return to the postseason. The White Sox take on the Oakland A’s in the AL Wild Card game 1 on Tuesday. The Chicago Cubs host Miami Wednesday in their NL Wild Card game 1. Also Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Padres in their NL Wild Card game 1. The Chicago White Sox will play their Wild Card game 2 on Wednesday.

 

(Atlanta-jm) -- Nick Foles replaced Mitch Trubisky in the 3rd quarter and led the Chicago Bears back to a 30-26 come from behind victory against the Atlanta Falcons.

 

(Atlanta-jm) -- The Chicago Bears fear running back Tarik Cohen tore his right ACL in Sunday’s game. Cohen suffered the injury on a punt return.

 

Aaron Rodgers passed for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Packers beat the Saints 37-30.

 

(Indianapolis-jm) -- Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Phillip Rivers threw his 400th career touchdown pass as the Colts routed the New York Jets 36-7.

 

(Undated-jm) -- The Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat have punched their ticket to the NBA finals. Game 1 of the finals starts Wednesday.


 

(Las Vegas-jm) -- Chase Briscoe picked up his 8th Xfinity Series win at Las Vegas Saturday night. Kurt Busch picked up the win in the Cup Series. Matt DiBenedetto, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr and Alex Bowman round out the top 5.

(Charlotte-jm) -- Hendrick Motorsports has been fined $100,000 for exceeding the amount of wind tunnel testing allowed in a year. The Motor Racing Network reported the group will also lose 10 hours of wind tunnel testing time from their 2020-2021 allocation. The Hendrick organization self-reported the violation to NASCAR. NASCAR officials say the team went over by less than an hour.

 

 

(Las Vegas-jm) -- The NASCAR Cup Series heads west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 Sunday evening. It’s a home track for driver Kurt Busch where he finished 25th in the spring race. He talks about using some of his notes from the spring race this weekend…

IHSA Votes to Extend Golf and Cross Country State Series

(Undated-jm) -- The IHSA Board of Directors voted to expand the IHSA State Series for boys and girls golf, as well as boys and girls cross country. Both sports were initially set to culminate their seasons after the IHSA Regional meets, but they will now end their seasons after the Sectional round. With boys and girls golf, the top two teams and top four individuals in each Regional meet will advance to sectional play. With boys and girls cross country, five teams will advance from Regionals to Sectionals. Golf Sectionals are set to take place October 12th through 17th, while cross country Sectionals are set to take place October 29th through 31st.

 

(Las Vegas-jm) -- Kevin Harvick will start on the pole for Sunday’s South Point 400 Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch will join him on the front row.

Donovan has taken the Thunder to five straight trips to the Western Conference playoffs. Before coming to the NBA Donovan led the Florida Gators to two NCAA national championships.

(St. Louis-jm) -- Dexter Fowler and Giovanny Gallegos have returned to the St. Louis Cardinals lineup after being out with injuries. 

 

(Charlotte,NC-jm) -- NASCAR Driver Denny Hamlin is starting his own race team in partnership with NBA legend Michael Jordan with Bubba Wallace behind the wheel. Wallace announced earlier this year he was leaving Richard Petty Motorsports at the end of the season. Hamlin will continue to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing.

 

(Charlotte, NC-jm) -- Ross Chastain will drive the number 42 car for Chip Ganassi Racing next season. Chastain is 8th in the Xfinity series points standings after a runner up finish Friday night. 

 

(Indianapolis-jm) -- Indianapolis Motor Speedway will allow a limited number of fans to attend the doubleheader October 3rd and 4th. Up to 10,000 fans will be allowed to attend the two days of racing with 5,000 fans each in turns 1 and 4.

Mitch Trubisky went 18-28 with two touchdowns as the Bears beat the Giants 17-13. The Bears are now 2-0 on the year. 

 

The Packers beat the Lions yesterday 42-21. Aaron Rodgers threw 240 yards for 1 touchdown. 

 

Jonathan Taylor rushed 101 yards for a touchdown on 26 carries for the Colts yesterday who went on to beat the Vikings 21-11. The Colts are now 1-1 on the year. 

 

(Wingedfoot-cf)-- Bryson DeChambeau won the 120th US Open Sunday afternoon with a total score of 6 under par for the weekend. That was DeChambeau’s first major win in his PGA Tour career. 


 

(Bristol-cf)-- Kevin Harivck slammed the door on Kyle Busch’s playoff win Saturday night at Bristol. Harvick held Busch off for the final 40 laps to secure his spot in the second round of the Nascar Cup Series Playoffs.

MLB Scores: 

Javy Baez hit a walk off single to right field last night in the bottom of the tenth inning. The Cubs beat Cleveland 3-2. The Cubs are 30-20 on the year.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Brewers yesterday afternoon. The Cards took game one 4-2 with the help of  Tyler O’Neil and Brad Miller home runs. The Brewers took game two 6-0. The Cards are 22-23 on the year.

 

Jose Abreu was responsible for the only run for the Whie Sox last night. Abreu hit a homer in the 4th inning, as the Sox fell to the Twins 5-1. The White Sox are 32-17 on the year. 

 

 

(WPXN-cf)-- With all three MLB clubs in the WPXN listening area(Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals) each has around 11 games remaining for the season. As it sits right now, The Chicago Cubs remain in first place with a 5 game lead in the NL Central, St. Louis is 5 games back, tied with the Reds for second place. The Chicago White Sox are the A.L Central Division Leaders with a three-game lead over Minnesota. The only team to clinch a playoff spot as of now is the L.A Dodgers. 

 

 

(Indianapolis-cf)-- The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted yesterday afternoon to start the 2020 football season October 23rd. There will be an 8 game schedule played, with a chance of a Big Ten school getting into the college football playoff. Each team will undergo rigours and COVID-19 testing, as well as cardiac surveillance. If there is a positive test, there will be a 21-day quarantine period. The NCAA Division 1 Council also announced that college basketball is on track for a November 25 start date. The final decision has not been made, but the “bubble” concept that the NBA and NHL have used has been a point of emphasis. 


 

 

(Chicago-cf)-- Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Allen Robinson told the media yesterday afternoon that his camp did not “demand” trade from the Bears organization. The Bears have not revealed if they will trade Robinson or sign him to an extension even with Robinson telling the media he “feels at home” in Chicago. 

 

 

(New York-cf)-- Today is the start of the 120th US Open from Wingedfoot Golf Course in New York State. The event was supposed to happen June 18-21st, and will be completed on Sunday. The total purse is $12.5 million, with $2.5 million going to first place.

Willson Contreras and Cameron Maybin were hit with consecutive pitches to force in the winning run as the Cubs beat the Indians 6-5.

 

The Brewers pounded the Cardinals 18-3.

 

Rookie Dane Dunning pitched 7 effective innings as the White sox beat the Twins 6-2. 

 

 

(Indianapolis-cf)-- The Big Ten has not yet made an announcement on the future of Big Ten football. It was leaked yesterday afternoon that it was supposed to make a decision on the announcement of football this fall.

 

 

(Chicago-cf) Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Allen Robinson has asked the Chicago Bears for a trade. Robinson has deleted all affiliation of the Chicago Bears off his social media, speculating the organization to force a trade.

Cards Split, Sox Win

The St. Louis Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew took the first game 2-1. The Redbirds came back with a 3-2 win in game 2. 

 

Adan Engel delivered a tie breaking pinch-hit single in the eighth inning to lead the White Sox over the Twins 3-1. 

 

The Cubs had the day off.

 

(Undated-jm) -- The IHSA loosened COVID-19 restrictions Monday. The changes include the removal of a two-game per week limit for winter, spring and summer sports, allowing schools to abide by normal IHSA season game limitations. In addition, the IHSA summer season can start two weeks earlier than initially allowed, with practices allowed to begin on April 19 and games starting on May 3.  

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- Martin Truex Jr brought the Bass Pro Shops #19 car home in 2nd place in the Federated Auto Parts 400 Saturday night at Richmond. Truex talks about the game plan for the rest of the races in the playoffs…

Alec Mills Pitches No-Hiiter in 12-0 Cubs win

MLB Scores: 

Alec Mills pitched the first no-hitter for the Chicago Cubs since Jake Arretia’s outing in 2016. The Cubs beat the Brewers 12-0. 

 

The Cincinnati Reds won the rubber match yesterday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5.

 

Eloy Jimenez homered yesterday afternoon for the White Sox who bet the Tigers 5-2. 

 

NFL Scores From Sunday: 

The Chicago Bears came back in the fourth quarter yesterday against the Detroit Lions. Mitchell Trubisky threw 3 TD’s and the Bears won 27-23.

It was released on Saturday that Big Ten presidents could potentially vote within the next 72 hours to start the season. That vote could be released this afternoon. (WPXN-cf)-- Nascar Driver Bubba Wallace will not be returning to Richard Petty Motorsports next season. The driver of the 43 car announced in a Twitter Post yesterday afternoon “it’s not an easy decision, but its time that someone else takes the reigns of the No. 43.” Wallace has not won a Cup Series Race in three seasons while driving for RPM, but has five top 10 finishes. It is not clear what Wallace’s next step will be.

Cubs lose, Sox win

MLB Scores: 

Mike Moustakas hit a 3 run home run last night in the first inning off of Yu Darvish to take a quick 3-0 lead. It was a pitchers duel for the remainder of the game as the Cubs couldn’t get a runner across the plate. The Reds beat the Cubs 3-0. 

 

James McCann hit another long ball last night for the Chicago White Sox in the 5th inning as the Sox went on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1. 

 

The St. Louis Cardinals were off. 

 

 

(Green Bay-cf)-- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is fine with him and the team “flying under the radar” this preseason. With Tom Brady heading to Tampa Bay, and Rodgers former coach Mike McCarthy becoming the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, there hasn’t been much buzz around the Packers who are returning the same defense as last season. The Packers were one win short of heading to the Super Bowl last season finishing 13-3 in the regular season.  

 

 

(Phoenix-cf)-- Former Fighting Illini Basketball player Brian Randle has been hired as a  Phoenix Suns assistant coach. Randle, who graduated from Peoria Notre Dame High School, agreed to take the position yesterday afternoon. Randle played for the Fighting Illini from 2003 to 2008, after taking a medical redshirt in the ‘04-’05 season. Randle was an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. 


 

(Kansas City-cf)-- Tonight is the start of the NFL football regular season. The Houston Texans are in Kansas City to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at 7:20. The Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions in Detroit at 12:00 Sunday, the Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings also at Noon and the Indianapolis Colts will play the Jacksonville Jaguars at noon on Sunday.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 last night with help from a David Bote triple in the 5th inning. 

 

The St. Louis Cardinals split a doubleheader yesterday afternoon against the Minnesota Twins. The Red Birds lost game one 7-3, but took game two 6-4. 

 

The Chicago White Sox White Sox lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 last night. The South Siders are now tied with Cleveland for the A.L Central Division lead. 


 

(Chicago-jm) -- The Chicago Cubs added speedy outfielder Billy Hamilton to their active roster Tuesday and optioned slumping slugger Jose Martinez to their alternate training site. Hamilton was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets on Monday. Martinez, an infielder/outfielder, is 0-for-14 since coming over in a trade with Tampa Bay on August 30.

There is still one large question surrounding the Bears organization, who the starting quarterback will be. Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy doesn’t have an immediate answer to that question either and told media that “that decision will be made prior to the first game against the Lions.”
