(Chicago-cf)-- Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has tested positive for COVID-19, and will be away from the club for several days. Abreu is asymptomatic. “Other than being frustrated, Jose feels great, and like the rest of us, uis looking forward to rejoining the club in the not too distant future” White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn said. (Los Angeles-cf)-- 15 time PGA Major Event Champion Tiger Woods was involved in a single vehicle crash yesterday morning that sent the PGA Champion to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Wood’s agent confirmed that Woods had emergency surgery on both of his legs. This comes after Woods 5th back surgery less than two months ago. 

 

 


(Urbana-cf)-- The Fighting Illini weren't able to get back into the game after a rocky start against Michigan State last night, losing 81-72. Trent Fraizer led the Illini in scoring with 22 points. (WPXN-cf)-- The NBA All-Star game will be played this season. The announcement came last night, after discussion of not playing the game this season and honoring the players who were selected. This year's NBA All-Star game will be played in Atlanta at State Farm Center March 7th. 


 

(Indianapolis-cf)-- The Indianapolis Colts have found their quarterback replacement after Phillip Rivers announced his retirement. Carson Wentz was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday afternoon. The Eagles received a 2021 third-round draft pick, and a 2022 conditional second-round pick. 

 

 

(WPXN-cf)-- The salary cap for all professional sports will be in jeopardy of being lowered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the NFL shockling increased the salary cap for each team this season to $180 million per team. This figure has not been finizaled, but is an adjustment to the cap “floor” established last summer.

Illinois will not open the 2021 Football season in Ireland

NHL Scores: 

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-0. Alex DeBrincat and Phillpp Kurashev both scored for the Hawks. 

 

NBA Scores: 

The Chicago Bulls defeated the Detroit Pistons 105-102. The Bulls were led in scoring by Zach LaVine with 37. LaVine also tallied 5 rebounds and 5 assists. 


 

 

(Urbana-cf)-- The Fighting Illini Football squad was scheduled to open their 2021 campaign in Dublin Ireland against Nebraska. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the uncertainty that surrounds it, that game has been moved to Champaign. “This is very disappointing for our athletic program, our team and for the fans who were planning to attend the game in Dublin” said Illini Athletic Director Josh Whiteman. The Illini are planning to return to the Aer (Air) Lingus College Football Classic in the future. 

 

 

(Chicago-cf)-- For the first time since 2008, the Chicago White Sox made the postseason in the pandemic shortened season last year. There are high expectations on the South Siders to start this year as players start reporting to Training Camp. General Manager Rick Hahn says this year is “World Series or bust” for the Sox with all of the roster moves, and players returning for this season. (Urbana-cf)-- The Fighting Illini Baseball team has set their upcoming schedule for the 2021 season. It will be an all Big Ten schedule this season which includes 47 games. The Illini open their season March 5-7 in Greenville South Carolina against Ohio State.

There are COVID-19 vaccine delivery delays across the entire country due to adverse weather and road conditions

(Springfield-jm) -- The federal government has notified all states of COVID-19 vaccine delivery delays across the entire country due to adverse weather and road conditions. To help offset delayed vaccine deliveries, the State of Illinois proactively ordered vaccines to be delivered to its Strategic National Stockpile Receipt, Store, and Stage site in anticipation of adverse weather. Illinois is distributing that vaccine to many providers around the state as weather permits, to continue to support vaccination operations.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Governor J.B. Pritzker plans to deliver his annual budget address virtually. The governor’s office said the State of the State address will be combined with the budget address “due to unique circumstances and challenges” from the COVID-19 pandemic. (Springfield-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Agriculture is hosting a virtual hemp summit later this month. The online event will be held Tuesday, February 23rd from nine to noon and will feature presentations from growers, processors, researchers and more says Illinois Department of Agriculture Cannabis Division Manager David Lakeman…

(Undated-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,348 new Coronavirus cases Tuesday and 32 additional deaths bringing the state’s total number of cases to 1,164,922 and deaths to 20,034. Champaign County reported 73 new cases bringing their total to 17,609. Ford County reported 19 new cases bringing their total to 1,519. The Vermilion County and Iroquois CountyPublic Health Departments were closed because of the winter storm.

(Washington-jm) -- The U-S Senate voted to acquit former President Donald Trump over the weekend. The House voted earlier on to impeach the 45th President with a handful of Republicans voting for impeachment. One of those is Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois…

Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois. Kinzinger was censured this week by the Iroquois County Republican Central Committee for his vote to impeach former President Trump. The committee says Kinzinger repeatedly put his personal and political agenda ahead of the conservate principles of the district.

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- Secretary of State Jesse White is announcing one million dollars in CARES money for libraries. The Moyer District Library in Gibson City and the Paxton Carnegie Library will each receive $500 while the Rantoul Public Library will receive $291.

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Illinois State Police officials said they need legislative authority to “untangle and integrate” a decades-old patchwork of Firearm Owner Identification, concealed carry, firearms transaction and records checks. The department has a persistent backlog of FOID cards with applications increasing in January. Illinois State Rifle Association’s Richard Pearson said other states don’t have these problems and the legislature should end the FOID system altogether.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Governor J-B Pritzker will give his state of the state and budget address at noon today. Because of the pandemic, Pritzker will give his address virtually. The Governor has said there will be no new taxes and discontinue certain tax breaks. It comes as the state faces a 3 billion dollar budget deficit. (Springfield-jm) -- This is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says it’s a good idea for parents to discuss the issue with their kids. Abuse can come in several forms, says DCFS’ Nisha (nee-shah) Patel. There is physical abuse, sexual abuse and emotional abuse, which can include harassing, name calling, spreading rumors or using social media to get revenge. Some abuse is easy to spot, but some is more subtle. Here’s what parents can look for…

 

 

DCFS’ Nisha Patel. Other signs include grades dropping or suddenly losing interest in goals. Patel urges parents to talk to their teens about what a healthy relationship looks like and stress that any physical abuse, pressure to have sex or someone trying to control them is not ok.

(Springfield-jm) -- The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules is set to meet this morning before Governor J-B Pritzker gives his budget address to decide if new standards proposed by the Illinois State Board of Education should be implemented. (WPXN-cf)-- Major League Baseball players and staff will now be required to wear tracing wristbands in order to get inside MLB stadiums for this upcoming season. In a 108 page operations manual, it states “...every covered individual must wear a Kinexon contact tracing device at all times when in club facilities, and during club directed travel.” The manual also stated that violators will face discipline. The MLB is also advising all players and personnel to get the COVID-19 Vaccine, while not making it mandatory.

(Urbana-cf)-- The Big Ten Men’s Tournament will officially be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The conference announced yesterday that they will move this year's tournament from the United Center in Chicago. The move will make COVID-19 testing easier for both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments to be held in the same city. The women's tournament was already scheduled to be held at Lucas Oil this year. The Men’s tournament will return to Chicago in 2023. 

 

 

(St. Louis-cf)-- Longtime Cardinals Catcher Yadier Molina has signed a one year, $9 million deal to return to the Red Birds. The move comes after Molina being vocal about playing two more seasons before he retires. Molina’s 3 year $60 million deal expired last season. 

 

 

(Urbana-cf)-- Illini Football has their event days set for the upcoming 2021 season. Oct. 2 vs Charlotte will be Foundation weekend, Oct. 9 vs Wisconsin will be Homecoming, and Oct. 30 vs Rutgers will be Dads Weekend. Illini Football signed two recruits on National Signing Day

(Chicago-cf)-- White Sox closer Alex Colome(COLE-E-MAY) has signed with a division rival. Colome signed a $5.5 million deal with the Minnesota Twins. The Twins caught the White Sox at the end of last season for the AL Central Division Title. 

 

(Urbana-cf)-- Yesterday was National Signing day for college football and the Fighting Illini signed two players. The first, Dwayne Johnson a 6’3, 230 pound linebacker from Snellville Georgia and 6’1 210 pound running back Josh McCray from Enterprise Alabama. With the two signees today, that brings the total to 16 signed for the class of 2021.

Starting Friday, all players and staff on the sidelines will have to wear KN95 or KF94 masks if not playing on the court. There will also be stricter guidelines for players and coaches who violate these rules. 

 

 

(WPXN-cf)-- There has been a lot of controversy when the MLB Spring Training League will start this season. Last week, the MLB sent a letter to thePlayers on Association on a 154 game season, which was rejected. With the rejection, Spring Training is still scheduled to start on February 27th. There will be some changes for this upcoming full season: there will be a 14 team playoff like last season. And there will be a universal Designated Hitter.

The rest of the top ten includes 2 Baylor, 3 Villanova, 4 Michigan, 5 Houston, 6 Texas, 7 Ohio State, 8 Iowa, 9 Oklahoma, and 10 Alabama. Other Big Ten teams ranked include 12 Illinois, 19 Wisconsin, and 24 Purdue.

 

 

(Urbana-cf)-- No. 12 Fighting Illini Guard Ayo Dosunmu won Big Ten Player of the Week honors. This is his third Player of the Week award this season, and the fourth of his career. Dosunmu ranks 5th in the country in scoring(21.9) 19th in the Big Ten in Rebounds(6.1) and 4th in the Big Ten in Assists(4.8)
