In the first three months of the year, both incumbent Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker and Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin spent about $10 million on advertising. Two of Irvin’s rivals for the Republican nomination also spent significant money during the period. Venture capitalist Jesse Sullivan has spent $1.5 million on advertising and state Senator Darren Bailey has spent $400,000. The primary election is just over two months away.

(Thomasboro-jm) – The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is searching for three suspects involved in a home invasion early Thursday morning. Deputies were called around 1:13 a.m. to the 700 block of Ackerman Drive in Thomasboro for the reported home invasion. The caller said three people forced their way into the home and fired multiple shots while inside. A 22-year-old man was injured by the gunfire.

(Champaign-jm) – A Champaign man was found guilty on Thursday of murdering his girlfriend in 2020. Antoine Craig is accused of murdering 34-year-old Tenesha Jenkins, whom he was dating at the time. Investigators said Jenkins was smothered and she had cuts on her face and head. There was also evidence of defensive wounds. Jenkins was found after police were for a welfare check requested by one of her friends. When investigators arrived, they noticed a man running out the back door. They also noticed her front door was kicked in. Witnesses reported that Craig talked about a fight with his girlfriend. Craig was found guilty of first-degree murder on Thursday. Craig is set to be sentenced on June 8, 2022.

(Champaign-tr) – 2024 prospect ZZ Clark announced on Monday that he has committed to the Fighting Illini Basketball program. The announcement comes just one week after his brother Skyy Clark announced his commitment to the Orange and Blue. Clark is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard currently attending Windermere Prep, where he averaged 11.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in 27 games last season. Along with the Illini, Clark has accumulated seven other offers during his young high school career from schools such as Kansas, Arizona State, DePaul, Boise State, and others. However, after yesterday's announcement,  both Skyy Clark and his brother ZZ Clark are officially committed to the Fighting Illini Basketball program.

He was a major player in local radio as well, serving as vice president and general manager of WDWS and WHMS in Champaign and for years hosting WDWS’ “Penny For Your Thoughts” through 2017. He was 90.

Scottie Scheffler fired a 1-under par 71 on Sunday to win the Masters Tournament by 3 strokes over Rory Mcllroy. It was Scheffler’s fourth win in his past six starts and first major win. Shawn Lowry and Cameron Smith finished third at 5-under while Collin Morikawa finished 4-under to round out the top 5.

(Champaign-jm) – Illinois running back Chase Brown is one of five finalists for the Jon Cornish Trophy, awarded to the top NCAA football player from Canada. The award is in its fifth year and is presented by Football Canada. Brown was an All-Big Ten third team running back in 2021 after leading Illinois with 1,005 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He was third in the Big Ten in rushing yards per game, fifth in yards per carry, and won two Big Ten Player of the Week awards.

(Champaign–jc) The University of Illinois Fighting Illini basketball program has another top prospect coming to Champaign-Urbana.  Skyy Clark committed to the Illini program on Thursday. Clark is a 6 foot three inch guard,  from Nashville Tennessee. Clark is considered a five star recruit.
