Baylor Transfer big man Dain Dainja announced his intent to play for the Illini after the hard fought win over Rio Grande Valley Friday Night. Dainja will become eligible in the 2022 season.

The Bears front office reportedly approached Matt Nagy after the third week of the season and wanted Justin Fields to start. Nagy told fans that Fields would start with the right opportunity early this season.

(Chicago)-- There have been multiple reports about Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy coaching his final game on Thursday against the Lions. The Bears front office has not confirmed any reports of this being Nagy’s last game. The Bears have never fired a coach in the middle of the season in the 101 year history of the franchise.

(WPXN)-- The latest NCAA Football poll is out, and Georgia remains on top. However, Oregon fell out of the top ten with the loss to Utah. (Chicago)-- Chicago White Sox Pitcher Lance Lynn finished third in AL Cy Young voting this season. Robbie Ray of the Toronto Blue Jays was this year’s winner, followed by Gerrit Cole of the Yankees. Lynn finished the 2021 season with a 2.76 ERA and 176 strikeouts. 

 

(Green Bay)-- Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers sat out of practice on Wednesday afternoon with a toe injury. It is unclear if Rodgers will practice the rest of the week, but he is expected to play Sunday against the Vikings. 

 

(WPXN)-- The NCAA voted Wednesday to expand the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament to 68 teams. The women only had 64 total teams in the tournament, but will now match the men with a field of 68. The NCAA Women’s tournament will follow the same model in place for the men.

(Urbana)-- The Fighting Illini Football program announced that Head Coach Bret Bielema has tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday afternoon. Bielema will not travel with the team to Iowa this Saturday to take on the Hawkeyes. Bielema is showing only mild symptoms.

(Chicago)-- The Chicago Bears returned much needed offensive line help Monday afternoon. Rookie Teven Jenkins practiced for the first time since off-season workouts. Jenkins has had back issues throughout his career in which he underwent surgery in August.

(Urbana)-- The Fighting Illini Football program has extended the first member of the Bret Bielema staff. Defensive Coordinator Ryan Walters signed contract extensions through 2024. Walters salary in 2022 will be over $1 million which would put him in the top half of the country for a coordinator. The U of I Board will vote on the increase Tuesday.

(Urbana)-- The Fighting Illini Football team enters their second bye week of the season. Until last week, the Fighting Illini have only scored three points in the first quarter all season. Offensive Coordinator Tony Peterson said that the first possession was a key for the Illini to get into the end zone.

(Chicago)-- The Chicago White Sox have made some roster decisions during the early days of free agency. The Sox have picked up pitcher Craig Kimbrel’s 1 year $16 million deal, declined pitcher Carlos Rodon’s qualifying offer, and did not pick up second baseman Cesar Hernandez’s contract.  


 

(Urbana)-- The Fighting Illini Men’s Basketball program officially tip off their season tonight against Jackson State. The Fighting Illini will be without big man Kofi Cockburn for the first three games of the season due to a suspension.

(Urbana)--Fighting Illini Big Man Kofi Cockburn received a 3 game suspension from the NCAA Monday afternoon. The suspension comes from Cockburn selling merchandise and profiting  before the NIL or Name Image or Likeness bill was passed early this summer. Cockburn will miss Jackson State, Arkansas State, and Marquette games.
