Champaign, ILL.– Fighting Illini junior center Kofi Cockburn has been named to the Naismith Trophy 2022 Midseason Team. 

This is the second year in a row that Cockburn has earned a spot on the 30-player midseason list for the Naismith Trophy, which has been awarded annually since 1969 to the nation's most outstanding college basketball player. Cockburn is having a dominant season for the Orange and Blue:

• Only player in the nation averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds

• Seventh in NCAA in scoring at 21.6 ppg

• Fifth in NCAA in rebounding at 11.2 rpg

• Ranks in top 10 in both points and rebounds – no other player listed among top 25 in both categories

• Second in NCAA with eight games of 20+ points and 10+ boards

Cockburn is a top contender for the Wooden Award, which has been presented annually since 1976 to the nation's most outstanding college basketball player. Other Big Ten players on the list include: Purdue’s Jaden Ivey and Zach Edey, Iowa’s Keegan Murray, Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis and Ohio State’s EJ Liddell.
