Illinois Head Football Coach Lovie Smith Gets Contract Extension Through the 2023 Football Season.

Trent Frazier scored 16 points and Kipper Nichols added 14 to lead Illinois over Mississippi Valley St. 86-67. The Illini made 16, 3 pointers, tying a school record for most in a game.

CHAMPAIGN, IL – University of Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced Sunday a two-year contract extension for Head Football Coach Lovie Smith to keep Smith at Illinois through the 2023 football season.

Whitman says the extension demonstrates the universities belief in Lovie Smith and his staff for future success of Illinois football.

 

The Fighting Illini women’s Volleyball team earned the number 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Their win against Purdue on Saturday was the 10th Top 25 victory and ended the regular season with a 28-3 record.

Congratulations to Coach Mike Allen and the Gibson City Melvin Sibley Falcons on capturing their second strait 2A IHSA Football state Championship. The Falcons won over Maroa Forsyth Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. The final score was GCMS 35 Maroa Forsyth 16.

The 1A Champion is Forreston as they beat Camp Point Central 44 to 6.

More congratulations goes to the 3A IHSA Football Champions. They are the Monticello Sages. Cully Welter’s team beat Byron 24 to 20. It was the first state championship for the Sages.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois senior guard Nick Allegretti was named one of 20 semifinalists for the prestigious Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, the award's selection committee announced Thursday. The award is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field.

Allegretti has been voted a captain by his teammates for two straight seasons and leads the team with 34 consecutive starts. A 2017 honorable mention All-Big Ten performer, he is also the team leader when it comes to community service initiatives.

The Packers rolled to a 31-12 win over the Dolphins as Aaron Jones ran for career-highs of 145 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers was 19 of 28 for 199 yards, including two scoring strikes to Davante Adams.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Kyle Busch has won for the eighth time this season and set up a head-to-head showdown with Kevin Harvick for NASCAR's championship. Busch's win Sunday at ISM Raceway outside of Phoenix tied him with Harvick for most this year in the Cup Series. The two were the most dominant drivers this season and will race next week at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the title against reigning series champion Martin Truex Jr. and Joey Logano.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Kevin Harvick earned a shot at another NASCAR Cup championship by blowing past polesitter Ryan Blaney in overtime to win at Texas Motor Speedway. It is the second year in a row that that the 2014 Cup champion has won the fall race at Texas to get into the final four. With Joey Logano and Harvick locked in after winning the past two races, the series goes to Phoenix next week with only two spots up for grabs for the championship run at Homestead in two weeks.
