The Chicago Bears made several moves after having the number 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. The Bears traded down two times to the number 10 overall pick and chose Offensive Tackle  Darnell Turner from Tennessee University

The Carolina Panthers chose Alabama quarterback Bryce Young as the number one overall pick in this year’s draft

The University of Illinois had the number 5 overall pick in cornerback Devon Witherspoon chosen by the Seattle Seahawks

 (Champaign–jc)  The Big Ten Conference has revealed the breakdown of all 14 schools' conference opponents for the 2023-24 men's basketball season. Big Ten teams will once again compete in a 20-game conference schedule, playing seven teams both home and away and six teams once 

Here is the listing of Illinois' opponents for the 2024 Big Ten schedule:

Home & Away – Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers
Home Only – Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska
Away Only – Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin

Illinois is the Big Ten's winningest team in conference play over the last four years with a 55-25 record. Under head coach Brad Underwood the Illini have made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, own four straight 20-win regular seasons, and have recorded four straight top-five Big Ten finishes highlighted by a league-best 16 wins in 2021 and 15 wins en route to the Big Ten title in 2022.

(champaign-dg)-Brad Underwood and the Fighting Illini have landed former Oregon forward Quincy Guerrier. The 6-8, 220 pound forward hit the transfer portal on April 18th. He played one year at Syracuse before entering the portal and going to Oregon. He was recruited by the Illini out of high school and after leaving Syracuse. 

 

(Champaign–jc)   The Illinois vs. Nebraska football game originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 has been selected by the Big Ten and its television partners to move to Friday, October 6th. The game will kick off in prime time at Memorial Stadium on Friday night. Kick time and television network designation for the game will be announced later this spring.

The University of Illinois FIghting Illini baseball team swept the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a three game series over the weekend. The Illini won Friday 9 to 3. The Illini took game two in the series on Saturday by a score of 5 to 3 and won the finale on Sunday 6 to 5. Next up for Illinois baseball is a road game tomorrow night at Bradley University. Gametime is 6pm

 

The University of Illinois Softball team also swept a three game series at Eichelberger Field, against Michigan State,  in Urbana over the weekend. The Illini won 4 to 3 on Friday, 12 to 8 on Saturday and also won on Sunday 4 to 3. Illinois softball hosts DePaul University at 5pm tomorrow. The Illini are 27 and 21 on the year

 

Illini Men’s Golf hosted the Illinois Spring Collegiate to close out the regular season. The Illini won the team event and will look to the  Big 10 Championships in New Jersey this weekend. 

Illini women’s golf heads to the Big 10 Championships in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania this weekend.

Anderson joins the Illinois program after three seasons on Stanford's staff, where she worked primarily with the guards. She's been in the collegiate coaching ranks since 2013. Jon Rahm earned the green jacket at this year's Masters tournament. He started the day 2 shots behind Brooks Koepka but fired a final round 3 under 69, while Koepka fired a 3 over 75 to finish tied for second. Phil Mickelson shot a 7 under 65 on the final day to earn the second place tie.

(Champaign–jc  The University of Illinois softball team won one of three games over the weekend against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Illini lost 6 to 2 on Friday, the Illini split a double header yesterday winning the first game 6 to 4 and losing the nightcap by a score of 10-9.

 

The U of I Men’s Baseball team won one of three against the Michigan Wolverines over the weekend. The Illini lost 12 to 9 on Friday and 10 to 5 on Saturday before winning on Sunday 11 to 1. Sunday was also the annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids at Illinois Field. The Illini take on Illinois State tomorrow afternoon in Champaign.
