WPXN Issues of East Central Illinois for 2021

Jan 5. Six Ford County students have placed first in national Daughters of the American Revolution contests. 66 students from Tri-Point, PBL and GCMS competed locally. Ava Fehr, Jack Goembel and Josie Klerst from GCMS, Melanie Tamayo and Lainey Bertrand from Tri-Point and Lauren Sawyer from PBL all placed first in national contests. 3 min 7am, 8am, noon

 

Jan 12. The Paxton Buckley Loda Education Foundation has received a donation from a local bank. Farmers Merchants Bank of Illinois donated $13,000 to the foundation to go towards technology updates throughout the district. Jan 19. A big question or concern with the COVID vaccination is the cost associated with the two doses. The federal government has made the vaccination free for everyone including those without health insurance. Hudson Drug and Hallmark Owner Andy Hudson has the details. Feb 3. Local election time is upon us once again, and that means going over who is on the ballot, and looking at the different ways you can vote. Feb 11. A Fisher youth is receiving a national honor. Jordynn Huskisson was named the top youth volunteer of 2021 by Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. The group is America’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service. Huskisson was one of 102 chosen for the award. 3min 7am, 8am, noon

Feb 23. The St. Joseph village board is reviewing an extension to the franchise agreement with Ameren. Mayor Tami Fruhling says there are some concerns the village has with the proposal from the utility. Interview. 5min 630am, 730am, noon

 

Feb 26 The former Westlawn Elementary School in Paxton could see new life. A developer is interested in turning the old school into an apartment building which has some neighbors concerned. Paxton Mayor Bill Ingold says they are talking with neighbors to address their concerns and hope to make a decision in March.

March 5 The future of a wind farm near Sibley is up in the air after the county’s zoning officer rejected the building permit application. Apex Clean Energy filed the application to build the Ford Ridge Wind Farm near Sibley. Zoning officials say they found substantial modifications to the project. Apex says they will appeal the ruling. 4min 7am, 8am, noon

 

March 11 A new bike and walking trail will be coming to parts of Champaign and Vermilion Counties. The Kickapoo Trail will extend from Kickapoo State Park near Danville to Urbana. A portion of the trail has already been completed and St. Joseph Mayor Tami Fruhling says thanks to a grant some amenities will be added in the St. Joseph portion of the trail this summer. March 24 The Rantoul Regional Veterans Memorial is going to be constructed at the new Rantoul Family Sports Complex. The memorial will honor veterans not just from Rantoul but from around surrounding areas as well. The group has been fundraising for several years and Spokesperson Jim Cheek says they will continue to raise funds to maintain the memorial once its built. Interview 6min 7am, 8am, noon

 

March 30 The Rantoul Sports Complex hosted tours a few weeks ago, and the tours were a success. The 2pm tour was also held on Facebook Live, which to date is the most viewed video on the Sports Complex’s Facebook Page says Director Ryan Reid. Interview 5min 7am, 8am, noon
