CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois head coach Bret Bielema has signed a new six-year contract through at least the end of the 2028 season, Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced Tuesday. The agreement is pending University of Illinois Board of Trustees approval at its meeting in January. Bielema has engineered one of the most impressive turnarounds in college football since his hiring in December 2020. Following Illinois' best season in 15 years, the Illini accepted an invitation to the ReliaQuest Bowl, the program's top bowl game since the 2008 Rose Bowl and one of the top three Illinois bowl games of the last 30 years.

The Purdue Boilermakers are unbeaten on the season so far and are sitting at #1 on the AP Poll. UConn sits at #2, followed by Houston, Kansas and Arizona. Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas round out the top 10. Illinois is at #16, with Wisconsin at #17 and Indiana at  #18.

(Normal–jc ) –The Illinois High School Association  Board of Directors met  in Bloomington yesterday and the Board approved a State Final hosting contract with Illinois State University  and the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to host the IHSA Football State Finals. The venue is at ISU’s Hancock Stadium and the contract starts next year and runs for five years under the new deal.  Hancock Stadium hosted the inaugural IHSA Football State Finals in 1974 and hosted over 100 IHSA Football State Championship games from 1974 to 1998.
