CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - In front of a rowdy crowd at Huff Hall, the Illinois volleyball team upset No. 11 Penn State in a four-set battle on Wednesday night. The Fighting Illini's victory over the Nittany Lions was the team's first triumph over a nationally ranked opponent this season. The win also marked head coach Chris Tamas' 24th over ranked competition while with the Orange and Blue.  Illinois improved to 10-11 overall and 5-6 in Big Ten play. Penn State dropped to 17-5 this season and 6-5 against league opponents

 

(Champaign–jc)  –  The 20-23 University of Illinois Fighting Illini football schedule was announced on Wednesday.  Bret Bielema’s Illini start off with a home game on September 2 against Toledo. PennState, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Indiana are among the home dates in 20-23. The 17th ranked Illini are on the road on Saturday at Nebraska. We will have it live starting at 1-30pm Saturday.

(Champaign–jc)  –Illinois Basketball will open the 2022-23 season at No. 23 in the Associated Press Top 25.This marks the third year in a row that the Illini are ranked in the preseason poll, after starting at No. 8 in 2020-21 and No. 11 in 2021-22. Head Coach Brad Underwood's Illini appearing in the AP preseason rankings for three straight seasons is a first for the program since the introductory polls of 2003-04 (No. 13), 2004-05 (No. 5) and 2005-06 (No. 17).It is the 19th time in program history, meanwhile, that the Illini are ranked in the preseason poll. Illinois is one of just three Big Ten teams ranked in the preseason poll, along with Indiana (No. 13) and Michigan (No. 22). The Illini once again play a challenging non-conference schedule featuring No. 8 UCLA, either No. 5 Baylor or No. 18 Virginia, and No. 12 Texas.

(Champaign–jc)  –Illinois volleyball used its second-best hitting percentage of the season, .343, to earn a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers inside Huff Hall on Wednesday night. The first home midweek match of the season aired live on ESPNU – the Illini's first televised match of the season and beginning of a five-match stretch. 

With Illinois' midweek victory, the team now owns a 9-8 overall record including a 4-3 reading in Big Ten play. Rutgers drops to 7-12 with the loss and is 1-6 in league action.

Christopher Bell saved his title chances with an overtime win Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway in a stunning finish that knocked reigning NASCAR Champion Kyle Larson from the playoffs. With 5 laps to go, a caution came out and chaos ensued. Bell was able to get fresh tires and made up ground as drivers in the front battled and spun out. After another caution came out, he was able to pass Kevin Harvick at the start of the two-lap overtime to get his second win of the season.
