CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women's soccer team (4-2-5, 1-2-2 Big Ten) picked up its first Big Ten win of the season against Oregon (6-3-2, 1-3-1 Big Ten), 2-0, on Senior Sunday in Demirjian Park.Gabriella Garcia-Terrell put the Illini on the board first in the 52nd minute with the eventual game winner after Ashlyn Adams played a crosser inside the box to her and she buried the shot off her right foot. That was the Illini's first goal in conference play this season, Garcia-Terrell's second goal of the year and Adams added to her team-leading assists now with four.

(Champaign–jc) University of Illinois football linebacker Ismael Kante is this week’s nominee for 2026 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Kante, a fifth-year linebacker, took an improbable journey to become a leader for the Fighting Illini. Kante immigrated from West Africa with his parents and five younger brothers in 2012. He took to football and wrestling while at Brooklyn Park Center High School in Minnesota, earning a football scholarship to Northern State, a Division II school in Aberdeen, S.D. He spent two years at Northern State, including a redshirt year in 2022, before transferring to Iowa Central Community College, where he became one of the best linebackers at the juco level and drew the attention of Illinois coach Bret Bielema. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Kante committed to Illinois and made his presence felt from Day 1 in Champaign. He played in all 13 games for the 9-4 Illini, and he stepped into a leadership role entering this season.

The entire allotment of 3,000 student season tickets for State Farm Center was claimed within the first minute, with the processing of all sales covering a span of nine minutes. 

This breaks last year's record of 18 minutes and marks the sixth year in a row that Orange Krush tickets have sold out quickly Fighting Illini Basketball has high expectations once again in 2026-27, appearing in the Top 5 of numerous preseason rankings

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's cross-country teams are prepared for the Gans Creek Classic on Friday (Sept. 25) in Columbia, Mo. The women's 6k will start at 8 a.m. CT, and the men's 8k will begin at 8:45 a.m. CT.

The Illini finished the Fighting Illini Invitational in first place for both the men and women with great performances. Kennady Anderson led the women's team, finishing second with a time of 13:25.6. Two new transfers were next to cross for Illinois, first with Abbi Steiner, who took sixth (13:47.7), and following right behind was Olivia Haas, placing seventh (13:47.7) to be in the top-3 for the Illini women's team.

(Champaign–jc)   Illinois wrestling head coach Jeremy Hunter revealed the team's upcoming 20-26 nonconference schedule. The season begins on the road Saturday, November 7th, when the Fighting Illini travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to face Hofstra at Wrangle-Mania. The following day Sunday, November 8th, Illinois will compete in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic also in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Illini's next dual comes Saturday, Nov.14, when they travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on The Citadel.  Two additional tournaments round out the schedule, beginning with the Cougar Clash on Sunday, Dec. 6, in Edwardsville, Ill. Illinois will then compete in the Midlands Championships on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 28-29, at Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, Ill.

(Champaign–jc)  –The fifth non-conference schedule of the Shauna Green era at Illinois has been announced and features 10 home games inside State Farm Center.

The first of those 10 home contests will be an exhibition against U of I Springfield on October 30th . Illinois' regular-season opener is slated for Wednesday, November 4th against Detroit Mercy. Later that week, the Orange and Blue will host Southern on Saturday, November 7. Eight days later, Green's squad will close out its season-opening homestand with a tilt against SEMO on November 15th.

From there, Illinois' next three non-conference games will be on the road. On Nov. 18, the Fighting Illini will head to Ball State for its first road contest of the season. Illinois will spend Thanksgiving in the Bahamas.

(Clinton–jc) A second area school is canceling the remainder of its football schedule. School officials at Clinton High School say the varsity Maroons are canceling the remainder of the season due to injuries and participation numbers. The Maroons were Oh and 3 heading into week 4. Clinton High School will continue to have JV football. Earlier this week, Hoopeston Area High School officials are planning to play one more game this season and forfeiting the rest. Watseka High School also is not playing varsity football this year. They continue to have a J V team.

(Texas–jc)  – Illinois women's golf wrapped up season-opening play at The Bruzzy on Wednesday in Texas. The Orange and Blue tied for fourth as a team, carding three-straight below par rounds to finish the event -12. Individually, Sofia Vargas scored 10-under-par to earn co-champion honors from the Trophy Club Country Club.

The school says injuries are the reason for the forfeitures. In addition to the Bismarck Henning game, the other games affected are Georgetown Ridge Farm, Oakwood, Clifton Central and Westville. CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will host the 2026 Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and 10th-Anniversary Gala, presented by the University of Illinois Foundation, on Friday, Sept. 11. Some of the greatest names in Fighting Illini Athletics are expected to be in attendance on the floor of State Farm Center for the evening's festivities. 

This year's 10th-anniversary ceremony is a ticketed event for all attendees that includes a plated dinner at a tabled seat, open bar, and program that will induct the 2026 class and also welcome back what is approaching 30 Illinois Athletics Hall of Famers from the previous nine classes. A limited number of tickets remain and can be purchased online at FightingIllini.com. Tickets are $150, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Formal attire is required; black tie is encouraged.

The 2026 St. Joseph-Ogden Hall of Fame induction ceremony is on Friday, September 18th. . The 2026 SJO Hall of Fame Class is Marla Dickerson, Bob Glazier, Lucas Marrs, & Stephanie (Canfield) Stinnett.

The induction ceremony is during the homecoming game between the St Joe Ogden Spartans and the Rantoul Eagles.
