CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected 40 standout men's college basketball players for its 2023-24 Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List, highlighted by Illini fifth-year guard Terrence Shannon Jr. Shannon leads Illinois and ranks second in the Big Ten at 21.6 points per game, the highest scoring average by an Illini player in the last 51 years. He has scored at least 12 points in all 21 of his appearances this season, including 12 20-point games and four 30-point performances. 

 

CHICAGO, Ill. – Registration is now open for the 2024 BTN Big 10K – the summer race bringing Big Ten fans together. The 13th annual BTN Big 10K and 5K returns to Soldier Field on Saturday, July 13, with school mascots, cheerleaders, and a massive post-race tailgate party. New this year, fans and alumni of Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington will have the opportunity to participate in both the 10K and 5K. Big Ten fans who cannot make it to Chicago can register for the virtual edition of this year’s BTN Big 10K, which will take place from Saturday, July 13 to Saturday, July 20.

(Atlanta-dg)-In a crash filled race, it came down to a 3 wide photo finish. Kyle Busch slipped in between Ryan Blaney and Daniel Suarez to battle it out to the end. Daniel Suarez was determined the winner with Blaney second and Busch third. The biggest crash in Atlanta Motor Speedway history happened on the second lap with 16 cars involved.

(Watseka–jc)  The Watseka boys game at Watseka vs Milford tonight will be this season's "Throwback Game."  This year they are recognizing the 72 year history of the Iroquois County Tournament. There will be a 12 page program filled with history and information about the County Tournament that was played from 1926-1997. Players, cheerleaders, and coaches that participated in the County will also be recognized. Fans are encouraged to dress as the time period they were in school, as if they were at a county tourney game. Students should dress in the decade that their parents would have been in. Both teams will be wearing commemorative warm-ups and the Warriors will be wearing replica uniforms honoring the 1975 State 3rd place team. The JV game will tip-off at 6:00pm followed by the varsity game.

 

(Champaign-jm) – High school wrestlers across the state will prepare for the Illinois High School Association Wrestling Individual State Championships, February 15th–17th. Over 650 wrestlers from 250 high schools will compete this weekend at the State Farm Center, with hopes to make it under the spotlight for the championship match. The matches, featuring fourteen weight classes across three divisions, kick off at noon Thursday and run through Saturday evening. With an estimated total attendance of nearly 30,000 and multiple room nights in local accommodations, local officials estimate a $5.5 million economic impact to the area.
