Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame are the Top Four Teams in the First College Football Playoff Rankings of the Season

UNDATED (AP) — Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, matching the order in the current Associated Press football poll. That's a good sign for those programs, since the top four selections in the last four initial rankings made it to the playoff. Georgia, Alabama and Clemson started in the top four and finished there last year. Michigan is fifth, followed by Georgia and Oklahoma.

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Aric Almirola finished a Stewart-Haas Racing rout at Talladega Superspeedway by taking his first win of the season with a last-lap pass that also put him in the third round of NASCAR's Cup playoffs. Almirola was part of a four-car Ford tandem that dominated the entire race. Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick and Almirola had pulled away from the field and were in control until a caution sent the race into overtime.

 

The Beecher Bobcats won the initial Sangamon Valley-River Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday night at Kankakee Community College. Beecher beat Cissna Park in Two sets. The Lady Panthers of Paxton Buckley Loda finished in 3rd place beating Watseka.

Illinois Dismisses Receiver for Violating Team Rules

Illini Coach Lovie Smith has dismissed receiver Bennett Williams from the team after violating team rules. Bennett served a 3 game suspension to start the season for the same reasons. He earned freshman All-American honors last season.

Brewers Win NL Central, Cubs and Rockies to Play for Wild Card

CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have locked down the NL Central title and home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs by scoring twice in the eighth inning of a 3-1 victory over the Cubs in Chicago yesterday. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat Colorado, 5-2 yesterday to win their sixth consecutive NL West championship. The Rockies will travel to Chicago to take on the Cubs in today's wild-card game.

Cubs & Brewers Set for 1 game Playoff for NL Central

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs will host the Milwaukee Brewers in a one-game playoff today for the NL Central title. Both teams forced the extra game by winning yesterday, with the Brewers thumping Detroit, 11-0 and the Cubs rolling to a 10-5 win over St. Louis.

 

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Colorado Rockies are in Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in a one-game playoff for the NL West crown today.

Mitchell Trubisky threw 6 touchdown passes, 5 in the first half as the Bears pounded the Tampa Bay Bucs 48-10.

 

The Packers blanked the Buffalo Bills  22-0. Mason Crosby had 3 field goals.

 

The Texans beat the Colts 37-34 on a second chance field goal as time expired.

Ryan Blaney slid past leaders Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson as they wrecked racing for the victory to win the debut race on the roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
