E I Baseball from Saturday and Sunday

On Saturday in Arcola… in a rain out make up game, the Buckley Dutchmasters beat Arcola 20 to 4. Quentin Hatfill led the Dutchmasters 19 hit attack going 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and 6 RBI’s.  Cole Eshleman was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s while Evan Herpstreith collected a double and 3 RBI’s.

Andy Davis picked up his E.I. League leading 7th win on the mound allowing 4 unearned runs while striking out 7 and not allowing a walk.

AT THE 20-23  E.I. Jamboree in Buckley, the Dutchmasters beat the Royal Giants 11 to 7. Quentin Hatfill homered for the second time in as many days to lead the Buckley offense to their 15th win of the season.  Drake Schrodt was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI.  Kyle Czarnecki and Cole Eshleman each doubled and drove in a run for the Dutchmasters. Brennan Kraft collected the win on the hill for Buckley, going 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned while striking out 4.  Evan Addis threw the final 4 innings for allowing 3 runs and striking out 9 of the 20 Royal Giants he faced.

 In the opening game of the 2023 E.I. League Jamboree, Paxton Swedes defeated the Decatur Commodores 5 to 4. Colin Sullivan struck out 10 for the Paxton Swedes in the complete game win for Paxton.  The game was tied at zero when the Commodores scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th. The Paxton Swedes came back with 3 in the bottom half of the frame. Sullivan and Mark Prina, each had two hits for Paxton in the win.  The Swedes added two insurance runs in the 7th. 

The 2023 E.I. League Tournament will begin next Sunday.  Details and information on the E.I. League Tournament will be finalized on Tuesday night.

E I Baseball

The Regular season schedule for E I Baseball is in its final weekend with make-up games  due to weather earlier this season and the annual Jamboree set for Sunday at Schiewe Field in Buckley. On Saturday the Buckley Dutchmasters are in Arcola to take on the Riders at Moore Park in Arcola. Game time is 3pm

Then on Sunday it’s the annual E I Wood Bat league Jamboree. Game one in Buckley starts at noon featuring the Decatur Commodores and Paxton Swedes followed by the Royal Giants and Buckley Dutchmasters around 3pm

The two weekend post-season tournament starts on Sunday August 6th and concludes on August 13th.

(Undated–jc)  The E I Baseball league has set it’s schedule for the annual Jamboree.  The games are set for Sunday at Schiewe Field in Buckley. At noon it’s the Paxton Swedes and Decatur Commodores. The second game will feature the Buckley Dutchmasters and Royal Giants. 

The Buckley Dutchmasters and Royal Giants split a double header this past Sunday. The Dutchmasters were also crowned as regular season Champions on Sunday. The Paxton Swedes took a double header from Arcola 13-0 and 10-2.

(Rantoul–jc) –  For the next several weeks, some Junior and High School aged boys have the opportunity to play basketball at night in the village of Rantoul.  It’s called midnight basketball and games are played at the Forum Fitness Center in Rantoul. The games are being organized to offer area kids a positive activity during the summer.

Martin Truex Jr. won at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first time in 30 career cup tries. It was one of the most memorable wins of his career as it was the track he grew up watching his dad race at when he was a kid. It was his third win of the season. Joey Logano finished second, followed by Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski. Cup racing heads to Pocono this Sunday.

 Fighting Illini rising senior Aicha Ndour has been named to the 12-person roster for the Senegal National Team's upcoming competition in Kigali, Rwanda, at the 2023 FIBA Women's AfroBasket Tournament. The AfroBasket event is scheduled for July 28 – August 5 with Senegal playing in friendly competition ahead of the tournament. Entering her second season with the Fighting Illini in the upcoming 2023-24 campaign, Ndour appeared in 23 games as a junior. Ndour has spent the summer back home in Senegal advancing through the national team tryouts.

(Seattle–jc)  Vladimir  Guerrero Junior of the Toronto Blue Jays was crowned the 20-23 Home Run Derby Champion in the competition held last night in Seattle Washington  The All Star baseball game is set to start at 7 tonight at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Northwestern has fired Head Football coach Pat Fitzgerald after allegations of a hazing incident went unnoticed and unprevented. He was initially suspended for 2 weeks without pay on Friday following an investigation into the allegations on the football team. 

(Bloomington–jc) Key dates for the upcoming I H S A Football season are set. The first day of High School football practice is set for Monday August 7th. The first date for games is Thursday August 24th.  IHSA Playoffs will begin on Saturday October 21st.  IHSA State Championship games will take place Friday November 24th and Saturday November 25th at Illinois State University in Bloomington.

The 8 man competition begins at 7 tonight at T Mobile Field in Seattle. The home run derby airs on ESPN. The 20-23 All Star game is set for 7 tomorrow night.

(St Joseph–jc)  The Royal Giants and Paxton Swedes split a double header on Sunday at Meier Field in St Joseph. The Swedes scored 5 times in the top of the 4th, added two more in the 6th and 9th to win 9 to 8. The Royal Giants kept it close and scored one time in the bottom of the 9th, but came up short. Ben Jarboe of Paxton was the winning pitcher. 

Royal’s Nolan Roseman was the winning pitcher in game two for the Giants. The Paxton Swedes outhit the Giants 9 to 7, but the Royals got the victory by a score of 7 to 3. 

Game 1 from Buckley:

Buckley won a double header over the Decatur Commodores. Kyle Czarnecki doubled twice and had a triple while driving in 4 runs and scoring 2 to lead the Dutchmasters in the victory over Decatur.  Drake Schrodt went 3-4 with 2 RBI behind an inside-the-park home run. Andy Davis moved to 4-0 on the mound allowing 0 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings as Buckley won 11-2.

Evan Addis had a no hitter going with 2 outs in the 7th before Decatur’s Lane Campbell lobbed a single to short left field to break up the no-hit bid.  Addis got the 3rd out in the 7th to secure the shutout to improve to 3-0 on the year and give the Dutchmasters a 10-0 record and sole possession of 1st place in the E.I. League.  Addis struck out 13 Decatur hitters while walking just 1 along with 1 hit batsman.

Kyle Czarnecki kept his hot stick with a 2-3 performance and a double while driving in 1.  Drew Schrodt was 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s to lead the Dutchmasters to 9-0 win and their 30th consecutive win over the past 2 seasons in E.I. League and postseason play. The Dutchmasters will travel to Paxton next Sunday, July 16 to take on the Paxton Swedes.

NASCAR

William Byron was in the right spot at the right time to win a rain shortened race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He overcame a spin early in the second stage that put him down a lap, but gained the lead when the weather took control. It was his series leading fourth victory. Daniel Suarez finished second, followed by AJ Allmendinger, Michael McDowell and Kyle Busch.

Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen won his NASCAR Cup Series debut on a rainy Sunday in downtown Chicago, chasing down Justin Haley and Chase Elliott in a memorable finish to the series first street race. The race was shortened because of a 90 minute rain delay. The course still had puddles during the race.
