(seattle–jc)  –Chicago White Sox outfielder   Luis Roberts junior  is the number one seed for the Home run Derby at the All Star festivities tonight. The 8 man competition begins at 7 tonight at T Mobile Field in Seattle. The home run derby airs on ESPN. The 20-23 All Star game is set for 7 tomorrow night. 

 

E.I. Baseball

(St Joseph–jc)  The Royal Giants and Paxton Swedes split a double header on Sunday at Meier Field in St Joseph. The Swedes scored 5 times in the top of the 4th, added two more in the 6th and 9th to win 9 to 8. The Royal Giants kept it close and scored one time in the bottom of the 9th, but came up short. Ben Jarboe of Paxton was the winning pitcher. 

Royal’s Nolan Roseman was the winning pitcher in game two for the Giants. The Paxton Swedes outhit the Giants 9 to 7, but the Royals got the victory by a score of 7 to 3. 

 

Game 1 from Buckley:

Buckley won a double header over the Decatur Commodores. Kyle Czarnecki doubled twice and had a triple while driving in 4 runs and scoring 2 to lead the Dutchmasters in the victory over Decatur.  Drake Schrodt went 3-4 with 2 RBI behind an inside-the-park home run. Andy Davis moved to 4-0 on the mound allowing 0 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings as Buckley won 11-2.

 

Game 2 from Buckley

Evan Addis had a no hitter going with 2 outs in the 7th before Decatur’s Lane Campbell lobbed a single to short left field to break up the no-hit bid.  Addis got the 3rd out in the 7th to secure the shutout to improve to 3-0 on the year and give the Dutchmasters a 10-0 record and sole possession of 1st place in the E.I. League.  Addis struck out 13 Decatur hitters while walking just 1 along with 1 hit batsman.

Kyle Czarnecki kept his hot stick with a 2-3 performance and a double while driving in 1.  Drew Schrodt was 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s to lead the Dutchmasters to 9-0 win and their 30th consecutive win over the past 2 seasons in E.I. League and postseason play. The Dutchmasters will travel to Paxton next Sunday, July 16 to take on the Paxton Swedes.


 

NASCAR

William Byron was in the right spot at the right time to win a rain shortened race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He overcame a spin early in the second stage that put him down a lap, but gained the lead when the weather took control. It was his series leading fourth victory. Daniel Suarez finished second, followed by AJ Allmendinger, Michael McDowell and Kyle Busch.
