Another week with higher gas and diesel prices at the pump

(Champaign-jm) – The University of Illinois Police Department says a suspicious device led to the evacuation of Temple Hoyne Buell around 5:30pm. An all clear was given just over an hour later. UIPD says the bomb squad determined it to be a replica grenade.

 

(Undated-jm) – Another week with higher gas and diesel prices at the pump. GasBuddy reports the average price of diesel is $5.58 which is 17 cents higher than last week and less than a quarter from the all time high set in 2022. The national average for gasoline rose another 3 cents to $4.05. In Illinois, the average price of gas rose 8 cents to $4.36. That’s 13 cents higher than a month ago and more than a dollar higher than one year ago. GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan says while it appears some oil shipments are getting through the Strait of Hormuz, the growing loss of Russian refinery capacity is hitting the oil markets hard.

(Paxton-jm) – Another supply distribution for flood victims will take place this evening in Paxton. The Paxton Emergency Response Service is teaming up with the Chamber of Commerce to host the distribution. Fans, contractor bags, damp rid and Moldex will be among the items distributed. The distribution will take place from 5:30 until 7 unless supplies run out first. The distribution will take place at the Paxton Emergency Response Services building located at 134 W. State Street.

 

(Paxton–jc)  –  City of Paxton leaders have met with most area legislative leaders from city and county to State Representative Jason Bunting, State Senator Chris Balkema and Illinois Congresswoman  Robin Kelly over the August Paxton floods. (Champaign County–jc)  Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking information from the public on a shoplifting event at the Champaign Wal Mart on August 9th. Police say a man and a woman entered the Walmart on Prospect avenue just before noon August 9th and left the store without paying for merchandise valued at more than 500 dollars. Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign County Crimestoppers at  217-373-8477.

(Vermilion County–jc)  Vermilion County leaders will look to replace several culverts in the county that were affected by the recent flooding in East Central Illinois. Three are in MiddleFork Township and the fourth is in Butler Township. The Vermilion County Transportation Committee will meet at 5 on Wednesday afternoon to address the damaged culvert issue. 

 

(Champaign-jm) – The federal court cases against State Representative Carol Ammons and her husband Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons has been rescheduled to November. Carol and Aaron both filed motions for continuances last week. Their trials were scheduled to begin on September 22nd. Aaron will have a pretrial hearing on Election Day at 10 am followed by Carol at 10:15 that morning. The trials are now scheduled to begin on November 17th.

 

(Paxton–jc) School leaders are in charge of the budget and must keep a close eye on all expenditures. (Danville-jc)  A motorcyclist was injured in Vermilion County just east of Danville Monday morning. Police say the person on the motorcycle avoided a car turning into its path just before 8am. The injured motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital. No condition report was provided

 

(Cissna Park–dm)-Rhonda and Brandon Thomas are the new owners of a restaurant in Cissna Park, Thomas Grill and Creamery.  Along with ice cream treats, they have some new food  items.  Co-owner Rhonda Thomas talks about some of the new additions to the menu.

(Paxton–jc)  The Ford County Public Building Commission will look at the county’s water treatment program and the fiscal year 20-27 levy with Ford County when they meet later this week. A progress report on the elevator project and bids for the county jails cell doors and locks project are also on the agenda. The committee meets Thursday morning at 9 at the small courthouse in Paxton .
