Former State Senator Darren Bailey, Republican from -Xenia, is set to launch his second campaign for governor today

(Dupage County–jc)  Illinois Justice Mary K. O’Brien and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of State Representative Terra Costa Howard, Democrat from Glen Ellyn, as a resident circuit judge in DuPage County.

Effective October 7th, Costa Howard is slated to replace retired Judge Paul Fullerton. Costa Howard gained notoriety during the General Assembly’s spring session when her bill to regulate schools and homeschool families drew record-breaking opposition across the state.

 

(Xenia–jc)  – Former State Senator Darren Bailey, Republican from -Xenia, is set to launch his second campaign for governor today. Bailey and his running mate, Cook County Republican Party chair Aaron Del Mar, have appearances scheduled in Carterville, Bloomington and Oak Brook. Bailey won the Republican primary in 2022 but lost to incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker in the general election.

(Rantoul–jc)  Rantoul Planning and Zoning Committee members are set to hear a request next week concerning a property on Keal Avenue. The Rantoul Park District is looking to rezone the property so it may be sold and re-developed. Another topic for the committee is to re-zone the ordinance that concerns mini-warehouses in Rantoul. The Rantoul Planning and Zoning Committee meeting is set for Thursday October 2nd at the village hall offices on Tanner Street.

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign Police were dispatched just after 11 Wednesday  morning to the 1000 block of South. Neil Street for a report of a Bank Robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a suspect had entered the bank and damaged security glass while demanding money and threatening staff. The suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency. No injuries have been reported to Champaign Police, and there is no evidence a gun was displayed or discharged during the commission of the robbery. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.  Champaign Police ask that anyone who has additional information please call 217-351-4545 or Champaign County Crimestoppers  at 217-373-8477.

 

(Springfield–jc)  The Illinois Department of Public Health has recommended all adults get a COVID-19 shot this fall despite federal guidelines that narrowed the group of people recommended for the shot.The states Health Department released a standing order this week that recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for all children between six and 23 months; children ages 2 through 17 that have an underlying risk or live in a home with another person who is at high risk for severe complications from COVID-19, The governor's office is advising the state to go against federal policies with the immunizations.

(The Center Square) – Illinois gubernatorial candidate Ted Dabrowski says repealing the TRUST Act to end the state’s sanctuary status is his top legislative priority. Dabrowski held a press conference outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview Wednesday. He said Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have fanned the flames of extremists .Dabrowski said Pritzker has characterized federal law enforcement officers as terrorists, while crime victims and their families have been largely forgotten.

(Herrin–jc)  –The Herrin Police Department is being recognized for being the first recipient of the Military Police Reciprocity Program. The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board announced the swearing in of officer Kevin Bailey as the first hire in the state certified by the new program enacted earlier this year.

(Danville–jc)  The Vermilion County Highway Department says Kickapoo Park Road will be closed today to prepare for and place the asphalt pavement at the site.  Traffic will be detoured using Henning Road  Kickapoo Park Road is expected to be closed for two days depending on weather conditions.

(Springfield–jc)  – The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding residents to take precautions against tick bites. Health officials say an Illinois resident recently became seriously ill with Powassan, a tick-borne illness that had not previously been detected in the state. They say the case serves as a reminder to protect against all illnesses associated with ticks.

The Ladies Aid group of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buckley will have a bake/garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, September 26, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 27, at the Buckley American Legion post. 

 

The Elliott Amvets will hold their pork chop sandwich dinner on Friday, September 26th from 5-7 pm. Cost is $8 and includes the sandwich and a side.

 

The Cadillac in Paxton will host Country Line Dancing with DJ Maggie B on Friday, September 26th from 8-11 pm.
