Country Music superstar Megan Moroney's appearance at the state fair broke the attendance record, with 15,532 fans

(Gibson City-jm) – The search continues for a man wanted in connection to a shooting that injured two police officers in Gibson City, and Illinois State Police is looking to the public for help. Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers from the Gibson City Police Department and Ford County Sheriff’s Office responded near the area of Ash Street and Sangamon Avenue for the report of a naked man, later identified as 70-year-old David Jordan. Officers attempted to make contact with Jordan, when a police officer and sheriff’s deputy were shot. Illinois State Police said that neither the officer or the deputy fired their weapons. State Police requests that people or businesses in the area with surveillance cameras check their footage from the time of the incident to now. Anyone with footage of Jordan should report it to their local law enforcement agency or by submitting a tip on the State Police Crime Tip website. There is a heavy police presence in Gibson City Monday afternoon. The officers are in the area of IL-54 and N 300 E Road.

 

(Undated-jm) – Average gasoline prices in Illinois have decreased by 6.8 cents per gallon over the past week, now averaging $3.35 per gallon, according to a survey conducted by GasBuddy. Prices in Illinois are currently 12.8 cents per gallon lower than they were a month ago and have dropped by 50.1 cents per gallon compared to the same time last year. The national average price of diesel has also seen a decline, decreasing by 1.8 cents over the past week to $3.690 per gallon.

(Champaign County-jm) – Nearly 6,000 people were without power in Champaign County Monday afternoon. A representative with Ameren Illinois told WCIA that the cause of the outages was a downed wire.

 

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In her signature white Lane boots, multi-platinum superstar, critically adored singer/songwriter, in-demand headliner Megan Moroney stepped onto the Illinois State Fair Grandstand stage and into the record book Sunday night, breaking the attendance record with 15,532 fans who sang along to her list of hits such as “Am I Okay?,” “Tennessee Orange,” and latest smash “6 Months Later.” 

Moroney surpassed the previous record of 15,427 set by Lil Wayne last year.

Fall semester classes begin on Monday, August 18.   Nearly 300 volunteers, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, athletic teams, registered student organizations, and community members, will be available to assist students and families during the move-in process. (Chicago–dm)-U.S. District Court Judge John Robert Blakey has denied former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s motion to remain free from prison while he appeals his conviction on ten counts of corruption. Blakey wrote in a 44-page document that Madigan failed to meet his burden to show that his appeal would raise a substantial question of law or fact. The former speaker is scheduled to report to prison on Oct. 13.

 

(Paxton–dm)-The Paxton Buckley Loda Community unit School District Number 10 will hold a Finance Committee Meeting Wednesday August 13 at 530 PM to discuss theFiscal Year 2026 budget. Then the full board will meet at 6pm for the regular monthly meeting.  Items up for discussion include New staff orientation and opening day agenda, and a report on the 2025-2026 registration.  The Board will go into closed session to discuss Collective negotiating matters.

This morning, some district teachers are doing a “walk” from the Kirchner Building Center Building to the Pueblo Lindo Restaurant along Route 45. The group is then set to host a teacher’s institute meeting. 

 

(Springfield-jm) – Beginning in the new year, all libraries in Illinois will be required to have medications available for people experiencing an opioid overdose and to train their staff to recognize the signs of an overdose. House Bill 1910 was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker. It requires that all public libraries in the state have a supply of opioid antagonists in an accessible location. Opioid antagonists, like naloxone, are medications that can block or reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The new law also requires that libraries take all “reasonable steps necessary” to ensure that at least one person present during operating hours has completed opioid overdose training.

One of those is Representative Robin Kelly, whose district extends from the southeast side of Chicago to all of Iroquois, most of Ford, the northern half of Vermilion and the northern third of Champaign Counties. (Champaign-jm) – Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who stole money from a Champaign cash register last month. The theft happened July 25 at Campus Mobile Solutions, located on Green Street in Campustown. Officials said that while the store employee went to the back, a man in the store moved the surveillance camera and stole cash from the register. The suspect was recorded on the camera before he moved it. He appeared to be a Black male, approximately 18 to 25 years old, and with a slight mustache. He was wearing a blue and white Chicago Bulls hat, a blue “Skyline Hotel” shirt, black pants, and white shoes with blue soles. Anyone with information on the identity of this individual is asked to submit their knowledge to Champaign County Crime Stoppers.

 

(Undated-jm) – As Special Olympics Illinois approaches the final heats of its summer sports, twenty Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the state are partnering with local police officers to raise funds for the organization. The "Tip-A-Cop" event, scheduled for Monday, August 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., will see officers assisting in serving guests and collecting donations.This year, the event will take place at various Texas Roadhouse locations, including those in Champaign, Bradley and Bloomington locally.

 

(The Center Square) – Illinois Republicans are demanding that state legislators return to the capitol to deal with soaring energy prices. During a news conference at Embaras bar and grill in Villa Grove, owner Ryan Garett said his energy costs have skyrocketed in just one month.

Jed Davis says the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services broke the law by allowing uncertified interns to investigate families, leading to the removal of children from homes. Davis said DCFS violated state statute for years by conducting formal child-abuse investigations with uncertified interns. Davis called on Gov. J.B. Pritzker to act immediately.

 

(Illinois-dm)-Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is one of 50 attorneys general urging the U.S. Department of Justice to address the spread of illegal offshore gaming operations across the country. Raoul said illegal online sports betting and gaming operations are largely operated by foreign-based companies that routinely operate without proper licensure and evade tax obligations.
