(Undated–jc)  Today is Tax Day and the last day to file your federal and state income taxes for 20-24. All payments to the government must be made by the end of business today or mailed by midnight tonight. 

 

(The Center Square) – Illinois House Republicans say several measures to address Illinois’ high tax burden are not advancing through the General Assembly. Republicans have introduced a package of bills to address the tax burden, including reforming the state’s estate tax, and lowering or eliminating licensing fees for small businesses. State Representative Jeff Keicher, Republican from Sycamore says most know that Illinoisans  shoulder the highest overall tax burden of any state in the nation, and the tax burden has been driving families, seniors and businesses out of our state for years.A recent study placed Illinois last in the country for taxation, coming in at 51st for overall effective state and local tax rate, 50th for real estate taxes, and 47th for income taxes.

(Springfield–jc)  The Illinois Department of Public Health has released its updated Illinois School Vaccination Coverage Dashboard. The updated dashboard includes data from the current 2024-25 school year. Even with a recent nationwide surge in measles cases, the overall measles vaccination rate for school children remains above 95% in Illinois this school year.

(Chicago–jc)  –Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he has not decided if he will accept an invitation to testify before Congress about Illinois’ sanctuary policies for noncitizen migrants.  Pritzker was called to testify in May along with the governors of New York and Minnesota. Pritzker said he did not see why anyone would get subpoenaed when they haven’t violated any laws. He spoke yesterday at a news conference to announce $19 million in state taxpayer-funding to expand the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

 

(The Center Square) – With Illinois now being home to the ninth highest home foreclosure rates in the country, Republican state Sen. Martin McLaughlin traces the state’s growing housing struggles back to the doorsteps of the capitol in Springfield. A new 24/7 Wall Street study finds homeowners across the state now face foreclosure actions in 1 out of every 3,753 instances, and with the onslaught showing few signs of slowing, McLaughlin is calling for action to aid those in need.By comparison, researchers note that the 1 in every 7,112 foreclosures in nearby Missouri is about half of what it is in Illinois. McLaughlin argues it’s easy to see why there is such a discrepancy.

 

(Shawneetown–dm)-The Ohio River at Shawneetown has entered major flooding status. The river was expected to crest at 53 feet early Monday morningt. Moderate flooding stage is 43 feet. Flooding had already closed down numerous roads in Gallatin County. In the coming days, the communities of Cave-in-Rock and Elizabethtown are expected to be affected by the rising waters.

(Paxton–jc) The members of the Ford County Insurance and Personnel Committee are set to look at the costs of employee health insurance when they meet on Thursday afternoon in Paxton. A recommendation to the full board on rates is expected at the meeting. A new health package needs to be in place by July First. The committee meets at 4-30, Thursday afternoon in the Sheriff’s Boardroom at the county jail in Paxton. 

 

(Central Illinois–dm)-An Illinois lawmaker is making an effort to relocate the United States Department of Agriculture to Illinois. State Representative Regan Deering said the USDA should move from what she calls the “swamp” of Washington D.C. to the heartland of central Illinois, specifically Bloomington-Normal or Decatur. Deering said the move would improve coordination with farmers and agribusiness leaders and provide taxpayers with a more cost-efficient and efficient department..

(Springfield–jc)  –Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, along with 20 other attorneys general, are warning the Trump administration against stopping new rules for the Affordable Care Act. Last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published a Final Rule that would increase patient access to state and federal exchanges under the ACA. The Trump administration is making an attempt to undo the implementation of that rule.
