(Springfield–jc) Total nonfarm jobs increased in eight metropolitan areas and decreased in six for the year ending October 2024. According to data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, over-the-year, the unemployment rate decreased in six areas, increased in six, and was unchanged in two.
The highest unemployment rate was in Danville at 6.2%. The overall unemployment rate in Illinois is 5.3%, one of the highest in the country.
Danville, IL- A Westville man was fatally injured in a single vehicle accident near the Vermilion County town. Vermilion County Coroner, Jane McFadden says the accident occurred around 11 Thursday morning. Fatally injured in the accident was 45 year-old Joshua E. Brown, of Westville.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Parkland Theatre will present Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," December 5-15 in the Harold and Jean Miner Theatre. (The Center Square) – Former Chicago Alderman Daniel Solis, now a cooperating witness for the federal government, has started testifying at the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain. Government attorney Diane MacArthur called Solis to the witness stand shortly after 4 Thursday afternoon. The 75-year-old Solis said that he secretly cooperated with government investigators for about 2 1/2 years and entered a deferred prosecution agreement, which allowed that he would not be prosecuted while cooperating. Solis admitted that he still faced a pending bribery charge for soliciting campaign contributions from a developer with a pending zoning application in his community.

(The Center Square) – An Illinois agricultural group is sounding the alarm over the condition of rural bridges in the state. The Illinois Soybean Association sanctioned a study to show the economic impact of rural bridges and their current condition. The association said agricultural productivity is expected to grow by 15% to 30% over the next 20 years, so the need for efficient infrastructure will only become more critical. ISA reports that 65% of Illinois' nearly 27,000 rural bridges statewide are in fair or poor condition. The study showed that 72% of bridges in rural Illinois are owned by local governments, making repairs challenging due to budget constraints.
