The fall veto session is underway this week in Springfield

(Chicago–jc)  –The head of Chicago's police union said the family of Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez, who was shot to death last week, does not want Mayor Brandon Johnson at his funeral. John Catanzara, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, said he doesn't want to see a repeat of what happened with the funeral of Officer Luis Huesca earlier this year. The family didn't want Johnson to appear at the funeral, and the mayor waited until the night before to honor their wishes. Catanzara said the family also does not want Gov. J.B. Pritzker to attend.

(Undated–jc)  –The Illinois Department of Labor and Elevate Trampoline Park have reached a settlement agreement to address safety concerns and make improvements across Elevate's Illinois locations in Milan, East Peoria and Peoria Officials said the Elevate Trampoline Park in Milan violated a stop order imposed in March 2024, following an inspection by the state's Amusement Rides and Attraction Safety Division. As part of the agreement, Elevate Trampoline Park will be introducing upgraded safety measures and new attractions that cater to visitors of all ages.

Current law enacted in 2021 mandates that all coal and natural gas-fired power plants close by 2045, and under the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act, restrictions facing gas-fired facilities begin in 2030. Unfortunately, as those deadlines inch closer and energy demands continue to climb, it is essential that those deadlines be re-examined with new viable pathways forward.

 

(Springfield–jc)  -The Illinois State Fair is already booking musical acts for next year. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Def Leppard have agreed to perform at the fair Saturday, August 16th. Since launching their catalog on streaming platforms in 2018, the band has gained 5.5 billion streams and continues to expand its global fanbase. Tickets for Def Leppard will go on sale Saturday, at 10 a.m.

 

(Gibson City–jc)  A building restoration group continues to raise funds for a building project in Gibson City. The Gibson City Restoration Association bought the former Loy building in downtown Gibson City and now are looking at upgrades and repairs. One fundraiser is the weekly "Queen of Hearts" game.

(The Center Square) – Defense attorneys have begun cross-examining a convicted former ComEd executive at the bribery and racketeering trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain. Fidel Marquez took the witness stand again on Tuesday. Marquez admitted that he was convicted of bribery in 2020 and agreed to wiretap conversations as he cooperated with government investigators. Marquez said during cross-examination Tuesday that he pleaded guilty to conspiracy in 2020 to make Madigan look favorably upon legislation for ComEd.

The committee is set to look over board policies ranging from employee ethics and curriculum content to connection with the community and gift bans. The silent auction starts at 4pm and runs through 6pm The live auction starts at 6pm. Monies raised go to chapter expenses, programs and scholarships for students.
