Murder charges have been filed in the killing of a judge in southern Illinois

(Chicago–jc)  Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he's disappointed in Tuesday's election outcome with Donald Trump retaking the White House, but he is prepared for what may come. While Illinois went to Vice President Kamala Harris 53% to 45%, Trump did win most of the state's counties. Regardless, Trump swept swing states and captured the necessary Electoral College votes and the popular vote. Republicans also captured the U.S. Senate and are predicted to hold onto the House, with several dozen races still to be decided nationwide.

 

(Paxton–jc)  Current Paxton Mayor Bill Ingold has announced he will seek another term as Mayor of the Ford County city. Ingold has served 4 terms as the city's leader. Paxton is currently in the first stages of a major property and business development on the city's west side.

 

(Ford County–jc)  Members of the Ford County Zoning Board of Appeals continue to look at an ordinance concerning carbon dioxide sequestration facilities. The group has met several times to draw up  their recommendations for the full Ford County Board. The next Ford County Board meeting is set for Monday night at 7 at the county courthouse in Paxton. 

 

(Buckley–jc)  Bids for a proposed sanitary sewer treatment plant for the village of Buckley are out and will be opened later this month. Buckley Mayor Scott Shockley says the project has been an idea since the 1980s...

(Illinois–jc)  –Murder charges have been filed in the killing of a judge in southern Illinois. According to the Edwards County coroner, 41-year-old Michael Valentine was shot in his Albion home November 5th. His wife, Megan Valentine, was officially charged with murder Thursday. Illinois State Police said they are continuing to investigate the case.

 Legislators return for the fall veto session next week. Lame duck session is in early January. The new General Assembly will be seated on January 8th.

 

(Chicago–jc)  –A federal grand jury in Chicago has indicted a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel on a drug conspiracy charge for allegedly manufacturing cocaine, fentanyl and other drugs in Mexico and importing them into the United States. According to an indictment returned this week the Northern District of Illinois,  Canobbio Inzunza, 44, is charged with drug conspiracy. Inzunza is believed to be residing in Mexico and a U.S. warrant has been issued for his arrest.  

 

(Gurnee–jc)--   Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, the parent company of Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, has released its first quarterly earnings report since merging with Cedar Fair, and the report suggests that Six Flags will at least consider closing some of its 42 amusement or water parks as part of its long-term business plan. The company has finally begun the demolition of Six Flags New Orleans, which has sat vacant for nearly 20 years after being inundated by floodwaters from Hurricane Katrina

(The Center Square) – The referendum seeking to raise the Champaign County sales tax failed with 66% of the community voting to reject the measure. The complaint against the county for promoting the measure also failed. The Illinois State Board of Elections heard John Bambenek's complaint at its October 30th meeting and it was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. The complaint alleged that Champaign County Executive Steve Summers signed off on spending at least $68,000 of public funds advocating for the ballot initiative. Illinois State Board of Elections spokesman Matt Dietrich said only a state's attorney or the attorney general can determine charges and prosecute in cases alleging election interference.
