Postal workers rallied across Illinois earlier this week, to demand increased wages and safety protections

(The Center Square) – Illinois voters will get a chance to decide whether millionaires in the state should pay an additional tax to address the high property taxes in the Land of Lincoln.The question asks: "Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1 million for the purpose of dedicating funds raised for property tax relief?" Former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is supporting the amendment that he said would raise over $4 billion to put in a property tax relief fund.

 

(Illinois–jc)  –A bridge connecting Illinois and Missouri has been closed due to a fire raging nearby. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge that carries Interstate 70 over the Mississippi River will be closed for up to two days due to a fire at a vacant warehouse. The fire was causing a large amount of smoke to hang over the nearby roadways, resulting in potentially dangerous driving conditions.

(Undated–jc)  Postal workers rallied across Illinois earlier this week, to demand increased wages and safety protections.The rally came as incidents of letter carriers being beaten, robbed and killed increased, with only about 10% of the more than 2,000 attacks nationwide since 2020 being prosecuted.The Protect Our Letter Carriers Act, if passed, would increase funding for more postal inspectors and resources to prosecute crimes against postal workers.

(Chicago–jc)  –A fourth day of jury selection took place on Tuesday in the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker and state Democratic Party Chair Michael Madigan. Judge John Robert Blakey resumed proceedings Tuesday morning at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in Chicago. One additional juror and six alternates are needed to join the eleven jurors who were selected last week.Along with co-defendant Michael McClain, Madigan is charged with 23 counts of bribery, racketeering and official misconduct.

(Champaign County–jc)  Interstate 74 was down to one lane of traffic Tuesday morning near mile marker 178 due to a road obstruction. Illinois State Police were called to assist at the scene. Police agencies are asking motorists traveling through that area of I-74 in Champaign to use caution as traffic continues to slow down in that construction area.

(Springfield–jc)  –May the force be with the Illinois State Historical Society. The Springfield-based organization's Facebook page was hacked. The infiltrator shortened the name to just "Historical Society" in September and has posted nothing but Star Wars-themed posts since. The page, which used to share state trivia and historical anniversaries, now features Stars Wars memes and birthday shout outs to cast members. ISHS officials have since created a new Facebook page.

Those with the Cissna Park Merchants Committee say their "Small Town Christmas weekend" is set for November 29th and November 30th. A lighted Christmas parade is planned and a townwide to Kellart Lake Christmas House decorating contest is also planned Prizes will be awarded for both the parade and house decorating contests. Cissna Park Businesses will also be busy with holiday specials for shoppers.

(Hoffman Estates–jc)  –The Hoffman Estates Police Department updated residents late Tuesday morning, saying the caracal, a medium-sized wild cat native to Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia, was caught by officers.The cat was found unharmed, hiding under a residential deck. It will be transported to an exotic animal rescue center in southern Wisconsin. Where the animal came from is still a mystery.
