(Undated-jm) – Authorities in both Champaign and McLean County are actively looking for a woman reported missing last week. The McLean County Sheriff says his office took a missing person's report on July 10 for Destiny Confer. The person calling was from Saybrook, but Confer was last seen in Champaign. Champaign Police confirmed that they canvassed the address where Confer was known to stay, but did not find her. The search remains ongoing. Confer is a 25-year-old white woman with hazel eyes and blonde hair. She is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds.

(Champaign-jm) – It was a rough way to start the day at one Central Illinois apartment complex on Tuesday. A garbage truck backed into it. The collision happened on south Fourth and East Daniel Streets in Champaign. People who live in the building had to evacuate when the truck took a chunk of the building out. No one was hurt in the incident.
(Champaign-jm) – The Illinois Commerce Commission is hosting a public hearing to provide Illinois American Water customers an additional opportunity to comment on the utility's proposed general rate increase. The hearing will take place at 7:00pm at the Champaign Public Library on Tuesday, July 23. Illinois American Water filed their petition for approval of a general rate increase with the ICC in January 2024 to determine its water rates. Rate cases are formal proceedings used to address the costs of operating and maintaining the utility system, determine the total amount the utility is authorized to collect, and what share of that cost each customer class is responsible for.
(Champaign-jm) – As the summer progresses, people on average are paying more at the pump in the city of Champaign.According to the gas platform GasBuddy, an analysis of 79 stations across the city found the average price for gas in Champaign was $3.59, which is 5.6 cents more compared to last week. For Illinois, gas prices rose by 6.5 cents per gallon on average to $3.83 per gallon.
(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Housing Development Authority wants to remind individuals that free assistance is available to overcome the financial barriers to owning a home. The agency currently offers up to $10,000 to help individuals, families, veterans and others to purchase a home. Launched in 2018, the IHDA Access Mortgage programs are open to both first-time and repeat homebuyers. Eligibility for a mortgage is based on the borrower's credit profile, household income and the purchase price of the home.

(Paxton-jm) – The End of Watch Ride to Remember — an annual motorcycle ride held in memory of police officers who died in the line of duty — will make a stop at the Ford County Sheriff's Office at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, August 8th. The ride will honor Deputy Brian Norton who died from complications of COVID.
(Sadorus-jm) – After a night of severe weather in Champaign County, there was something resting on powerlines just east of Sadorus — and this time, it wasn't a tree branch. The Sadorus Fire Department confirmed that a weather balloon landed on powerlines on 600 North Road.The balloon and the measuring device carried by the balloon — called a radiosonde — were both found wrapped around the wires. The balloon later fell off, but the radiosonde was still connected to the powerlines and dangled towards the ground. The weather balloon traveled 141 miles and floated more than 60,000 feet into the atmosphere before bursting and falling onto the powerlines.

(Danville-jm) – Authorities in Danville are still searching the Vermilion River for a boy who went missing Monday evening. Danville Police said the boy is 12 years old. He was reported missing by two other juveniles around 8:11 p.m. on Monday, saying the boy was swimming near the riverbank near Commercial Street. He subsequently became overcome by the current and went under the water's surface. Danville police officers and members of the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department Dive Team began searching the river, but were unable to find him before severe weather moved into the area. Tuesday. Danville Police added that members of the public have assisted in the search, but they are advised not to enter the water due to unsafe conditions.

(St. Joseph-jm) – A semi truck driver was sent to the hospital on Monday night after a rollover on westbound Interstate 74. It happened before 9:25 p.m. near St. Joseph. At mile marker 194, a semi drove off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail, then overturned. Illinois State Police responded to the scene. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with what authorities called "non-life-threatening injuries." Due to severe weather conditions Monday night, the semi was left behind for full removal on Tuesday.
