(Undated–jc)  – The Illinois Restaurant Association is offering an alternative to a plan to end the so-called “sub-minimum” wage for workers who earn tips. A Chicago City Council committee is expected to hold a hearing this month on an ordinance that would raise the minimum wage salary paid to restaurant and bar workers while allowing them to still collect tips. President Sam Toia said the higher wage level would be detrimental to smaller eateries and suggests quadrupling the penalties for businesses that fail to make up the difference in tips for servers who don't make the equivalent minimum wage.

(Champaign county–jc)  – Champaign County Coroner, Duane Northrup is releasing the name of a Champaign County youth from Royal,  who has died from injuries sustained in a pedestrian versus train incident on  Railroad Street in Royal. The accident occurred Friday morning just before 8am. 9 year old Easton D. Wilsey, died from traumatic injuries he received when he collided with a train while attempting to cross the railroad tracks on his bicycle. No autopsy will be performed however, an inquest may be held on a later date. This death is being investigated by the Champaign Coroner’s Office and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The Gibson City city council will consider a redesign for 2 new sites in Falcon Pointe and purchase real estate for the water department. In Rantoul, the Rantoul Township High School board will vote on the fiscal year 24 budget. The Ford County Board will meet tonight to consider a sheriff’s contract with the village of Sibley.

 

(Undated0–dm)  – Emergency management experts are discussing the response to migrants being sent to Illinois from other states. The panel discussion was held during an annual summit in Springfield.  I-EMA director Alicia Tate Nadeau says it was hard to get  a lot of details

 

 

Chicago emergency management officials talked about the desperate need for more space for asylum seekers.  The city has been using everything from hotels to vacant schools as temporary housing.

(The Center Square) – Illinoisans are paying above the national average for the most essential household bills. The bill paying assistance company doxo found that residents of Illinois pay nearly $900 more a year for household expenses than the national average.  The report reveals that while the average U.S. household spends $24,557 annually on the most essential household bills, which is 35% of the U.S. household median income of $70,784 and roughly $2,046 per month, many states, including Illinois, rank above this figure.

 

(Manteno-jm) – Illinois has landed a new electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant. Gotion, INC. is building a two billion dollar state of the art plant in Manteno, says Governor J-B Pritzker…

(Urbana–jc)  – Shots were fired early Friday afternoon in Urbana at a funeral. Police say the  incident is considered a murder attempt and targeted attack the location of the shots was at the New Life Church of Faith. . The shots missed the intended target, but some struck a nearby house. No one was injured in the attack Anyone with information or any video of the scene are asked to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477 or your local police department.
