(Springfield-jm) – Legislation headed to the Governor’s desk limits where constitutional court challenges can be heard. The goal is to prevent what’s called “venue shopping” where a suit is filed in a county that might yield the best outcome. Under the bill, constitutional challenges to state laws could only be heard in Sangamon and Cook Counties. Representative Patrick Windhorst of Metropolis opposed the measure….

(Kankakee County-jm) – An Iroquois County man is dead after a shooting in rural Kankakee County, according to police. Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Coyote Run in unincorporated Bourbonnais, in regards to a shooting that occurred after a fight erupted at a house party. Upon arrival, police located Michael Godinez of Clifton unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. Godinez was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

 

(Decatur-jm) – Two arrests have been made in the shooting death of Kemareon Rice in Decatur. Rice was shot on March 5, 2022. He died as a result of his injuries.  Arrest warrants were obtained for Travell  Washington and Freiashya  Ayres for the charge of first-degree murder.  Today , the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force found Washington and Ayres in Rantoul.  Washington and Ayres will be booked into the Champaign County Jail.

 

(Springfield-jm) – The state is adding more resources to help prevent veteran suicide. Individuals, community groups and professionals are invited to take free online training courses as part of the Governor’s Challenge to Stop Suicide Among Service Members, Vets and their Families. (Thomasboro-jm) – Illinois State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Champaign County Friday near Thomasboro in which three people from Rantoul were transported to the hospital. ISP reported that the crash happened on U.S. Route 45 northbound located near Thomasboro on Friday around 5:30 p.m. State Police said a 2007 Silver Honda Civic was traveling north on Route 45 approaching 2400 N. Road. A Black Ford Escape was also traveling north behind the Honda Civic. The Ford Escape struck the rear of the Honda Civic and fled the scene. ISP said the Honda Civic left the roadway to the left, striking a ditch and rolling over into the southbound lanes of Route 45.

 

(St. Joseph-jm) – A St. Joseph woman has been sentenced to 4 years 2nd chance probation. Shayna White received the sentence after pleading guilty to theft over $10 thousand. White admitted to stealing over $18 thousand from Prince of Peace Community Early Learning Center in St. Joseph.
