Illinois Democrats and Republicans continue their push for more votes ahead of the election

(Chicago-jm) – A Chicago man is facing charges after allegedly sending Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey a voicemail threatening to “mutilate and kill him.” 21-year-old Scott Lennox is charged with one felony count each of threatening a public official, telephone harassment and harassment by electronic communications. According to police, Lennox left the voicemail on October 28 and used his own cellphone to make the call.

(Urbana-jm) – The University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business announced on Wednesday that it has received a landmark monetary donation to support the construction of a new building on campus. The $25 million donation, gifted by a currently anonymous donor, will go toward the construction of the South Campus Center for Interdisciplinary Learning. The building, planned to be built on Gregory Drive between the Business Instructional Facility and Huff Hall, will be four stories tall and just under 100,000 square feet. Construction is planned to begin in the spring and finish by early 2025.

(Champaign-jm) – It has come to the attention of the Champaign County Clerk’s office that an undisclosed number of African American voters in Champaign County have received text messages falsely advising them where their polling location is. These messages are not affiliated with the Champaign County Clerk’s office. They were sent by a third-party vendor of Black Votes Matter. Black Votes Matter contracted with a third-party vendor to send push notifications to voters.

(Springfield-jm) – Illinois Democrats and Republicans continue their push for more votes ahead of the election.  The Illinois general election is just under a week away and candidates for office in Illinois are holding rallies for their supporters.  

Incumbent Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker spoke at the Illinois AFL-CIO headquarters in Springfield, and was joined by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, 13th Congressional District candidate Nikki Budzinski, state Senator Doris Turner and others.  Pritzker used the event to bring up past accomplishments. GOP gubernatorial challenger, state Senator Darren Bailey was joined by 6th Congressional District candidate Keith Pekau, attorney general candidate Thomas Devore and others in Glen Ellyn earlier this week where Bailey picked up the endorsement of former Hawaii Democratic Congresswoman Tusli Gabbard.

 

(Bloomington-jm) – Governor J-B Pritzker is celebrating the groundbreaking of the first U-S Kinder Bueno production facility in the country. The 214 million dollar plant is an expansion of chocolate maker Ferrer;’s operations in Bloomington. The Kinder Bueno chocolate bar was first launched in the U-S in 2019, and its production in the area will create 200 new jobs, says the Governor…

(St. Joseph-jm) – Christmas lights will hang on a village tree in St. Joseph this winter, thanks to a fifth-grade girl. Lana Schott convinced an entire village board that St. Joseph needed its own tree for Christmas this past July. Lana’s wish to spread cheer will come to life at 5 p.m. on December 3 at the lighting of the village tree. The tree will be placed by the village fire station, making it the first thing visitors see when arriving in St. Joseph.

(Urbana-jm) – Students at the University of Illinois aren’t just thinking about classes. After two sexual assaults took place over the weekend, they’re rethinking how to stay safe on campus. Campus Police said sexual assaults are trending down in 2022. One assault happened at a fraternity house while the other happened between Sherman and Allen Halls. Both women did not know their offenders. And while two may seem like a lot, Campus police said it’s not.
