(St. Joseph-jm) – A tow truck driver who was killed on the job in Champaign earlier this year was memorialized over the weekend, a few states away from his home and workplace. The International Tow Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee maintains a Wall of the Fallen to memorialize operators from around the world who die in the line of service. In a ceremony on Saturday, Ross Booker’s name was added to the wall. Booker, a native of St. Joseph and operator for Tatman’s Towing, died on March 6 after he was hit by a car the previous day. Booker was working the scene of an accident near Neil Street and Windsor Road when he was hit.

(Paxton-jm) – A Hoopeston man is the latest to be caught in an undercover operation by Paxton police targeting predators. Joshua Brewster was arrested by Paxton police after he allegedly sent photos to the undercover officer before traveling to meet her. He was arrested for traveling to meet a minor, indecent solicitation of a child, solicitation to meet a child and sexual exploitation of a child and was ticketed for illegal transportation of alcohol

 

(Springfield-jm) – The latest monthly crop production report is in, showing steady yields for both corn and soybeans. Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says it may be a record year for corn in Illinois…

 

 

State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener. The Illinois soybean yield is forecast at 64 bushels per acre, down one bushel from last year. Soybean production is forecast at 685 million bushels, which is just slightly above 2021 figures.

(Springfield-jm) – Illinois workers participating in the state’s “Secure Choice” program have now saved a combined 91 million dollars towards retirement. Under Illinois law, employers that don’t have any sort of retirement program have to offer Secure Choice to workers. Treasurer Mike Frerichs explains how it works…

(Urbana-jm) – Congresswoman Mary Miller and the USDA have announced some Illinois counties have been declared natural disaster areas following this summer's drought.  The counties covered primarily include Champaign and Vermilion, but Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Iroquois, McLean and Piatt counties are also eligible for USDA assistance. (Decatur-jm) – The driver accused of shooting two Decatur Police Officers Wednesday morning has been identified. Macon County Coroner Michael Day reports Jamontey O. Neal, 32, of Decatur, was pronounced dead at 12:48 a.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. It happened when Decatur Police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle Neal was driving. Officers told him to show his hands, but he refused to do so. Officers then saw what they believed to be a handgun inside the vehicle near Neal. That's when officers tried to take Neal out of the vehicle. Neal pulled out a handgun and shot at the officers at close range. Police officers then returned fire. One Decatur Police Officer was hit multiple times and a second officer was hit once.

(Undated–jc)  A candidate for an Illinois U.S. Senate seat is demanding accountability for erroneous ballots in Schuyler County. Republican Kathy Salvi said the ballot incorrectly listed one of her primary opponents as the Republican nominee for United States Senate. Salvi said she wants answers from election officials as to how this happened and transparency to show inaccurate ballots have not been approved elsewhere in the state. The Schuyler County state’s attorney has agreed to sequester more than 350 inaccurate mail-in and early cast ballots returned to the county.
