(Springfield-jm) – This is Rail Safety Week in Illinois. Last year there were 101 vehicle crashes at rail crossings, killing 24 people. Brian Vercruysee (ver-a-cruise) with the Illinois Commerce Commission says they are stressing the dangers these areas present and the need to really pay attention as you approach a crossing. That means put the phone down, take the ear buds out and follow the law…

(Vermilion County-jm) – Petition packets for the consolidated election can be picked up starting today. The consolidated election will be held April 4, 2023 and will include mayoral and school board races. Packets can be filed December 12-19th.

(Champaign-jm) – The Champaign County Search and Rescue Team will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this Saturday. The group will hold an open house on Saturday from 10-1 at ILEAS in Urbana.

 

(Undated-jm) – Beginning today, the Illinois Department of Agriculture will host 40 international buyers from seven different Latin American countries in an effort to increase export sales for the Illinois grain industry. For the past two years, the Grain Tour has been held virtually due to COVID-19. Despite the lack of in-person tours in 2020 and 2021, over $20 million in projected sales were recorded from the virtual tours. The tour will make several stops around the state, including in Decatur, Joliet, and Chicago.

 

(Springfield-jm) – The latest Illinois crop report finds corn harvesting just getting underway in a few areas. 77 percent of corn is in the dent stage and 27 percent is now mature says Crop Statistician Steve Parn…

 

 

Crop Statistician Steve Parn. 41 percent of soybean acres are dropping leaves and 67 percent of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition. The third cutting of alfalfa is now 83 percent complete and average statewide topsoil moisture came in at 10 percent very short, 14 percent short, 61 percent adequate and 15 percent surplus.

(Springfield-jm) – This year’s Illinois State Fair set some new records. Nearly 637 thousand people visited the state fair in Springfield last month, an all time record says Spokesperson Krista Lisser. She says the gorgeous weather was a big factor…

 

 

Illinois State Fair Spokesperson Krista Lisser. Grandstand concert sales also set a record, with two point three million dollars coming in for nine shows during the fair. Lisser says it’s estimated the fair generated about six point four million dollars in total revenue.

(Champaign-jm) – Country Music artist Cody Johnson will be coming to Champaign in March. Johnson’s tour is coming to the State Farm Center on March 25th. Randy Houser will open. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 30th at 10 am.

 

 

(Paxton–jc)  The Clara Petersen Pit Crew is the latest not for profit to benefit from the Paxton IGA Charitable Rebate program. The store has given 1 thousand dollars to the group. The Clara Petersen Pit Crew is the 54th organization to receive the money from the Paxton IGA for collecting 200 thousand dollars in IGA receipts The program started in September of 2009
