First Lady M-K Pritzker paid $105,000 for the grand champion steer at the State Fair

(Springfield-jm) – The Pritzkers once again engaged in a bidding war at the Illinois State Fair’s Sale of Champions. Everything from grand champion cheese, goats, barrow and wine is auctioned off in the State Fair Coliseum. When the grand champion steer, shown by Ashtin Guyer of Richmond strutted up on stage, Governor J-B Pritzker and First Lady M-K Pritzker started bidding against each other as they have in years past. (Springfield-jm) – Illinois' biofuel industry continues to expand and create more jobs every year, a new report by the Department of Energy has found. In 2021, 307 new jobs were added in Illinois, an increase of 4.6% over 2020, the 2022 United States Energy and Employment Report said.

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. A representative from the humane society was also on hand and said an estimated one million dogs and cats that could have been adopted are euthanized each year. He pointed out that it’s cheaper to adopt a shelter pet and that many animals are already potty trained and ready to give a new family their love.

 

(Champaign-jm) – After more than two years without one, the City of Champaign has a permanent Public Works Director. Champaign City Manager Dorothy Ann David announced on Tuesday that she has appointed Khalil Zaied to the position. Zaied’s first day with the City of Champaign will be October 17.

 

(Paxton–jc)  –  The 10th annual Paxton Swine and Dine is set for Saturday September 17 in the downtown area of the city. The downtown part of the city will be filled with the aroma of barbeque, sounds of music and several competitions. Leisure travel came roaring back this year as pent-up demand sent a surge of travelers onto the road and into various lodging across Illinois. June saw hotel occupancy hit 72%, 2% higher than the national occupancy rate.

(Gibson City-jm) – Gibson City emergency crews were called to a two vehicle accident Tuesday evening. The accident happened on Route 47 near the water treatment plant. There’s no word on if there were any injuries.
