Governor J-B Pritzker is signing a new law requiring insurance coverage of continuous glucose monitors

(Champaign-jm) – On June 19, 2022, at approximately 1:48 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 900 block of W. Bloomington Road for a report of a shooting with injury. Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately started rendering medical aid. A male victim was found in a vehicle having suffered multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Two female victims also suffered non-life-threatening wounds to the legs. The initial investigation indicates that an impromptu gathering had started in the parking lot of an area business just minutes prior to the incident. All three victims were in or near the same vehicle at the time that the shooting occurred. The driver then reversed across a parking lot and struck another vehicle, leaving a third female with non-life-threatening injuries.

(Champaign-jm) – The Champaign County coroner identified a man killed in a 2-vehicle crash on Thursday. In a news release, Coroner Duane Northrup said the crash happened on County Road 2200 East near 1950 North in Stanton Township. The coroner stated 27-year-old Caleb Huls was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicated Huls was driving northbound on 2200E when he rear-ended a vehicle with his car. Huls died from blunt force trauma he sustained during the crash. Toxicology results are pending. This crash is still under investigation.

(Danville-jm) – Vermilion County leaders have approved another round of ARPA funding. The county board approved spending $312,000 to upgrade four courtrooms at the counties courthouse. $133,000 will go toward upgrades to the counties dispatch system for emergency services.

 

(Mahomet-jm) – A Mahomet man is dead following a motorcycle vs vehicle accident in Mahomet. Colton Fender was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another vehicle, ejecting Fender. 

 

(Champaign-jm) – A shooting and subsequent crash early Saturday morning sent one person to the hospital. At 5:43 a.m., officers from the Urbana Police Department responded to the intersection of West University and North Goodwin Avenue for a report of a two-vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old male passenger in one vehicle with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the torso. Officers from the Urbana Police Department immediately rendered medical aid and the victim was transported to an area hospital. Upon investigation by officers from the Urbana Police Department, it was determined that the shooting took place somewhere in Northwest Champaign.

(Springfield-jm) – Illinois now has an official state snake. Add the Eastern Milksnake to the list of state symbols. It’s found across Illinois and is typically 24 to 36 inches long. Senator Dale Fowler of Harrisburg sponsored the legislation, explaining that the name comes from an old myth that these snakes milked cows…
