(Cissna Park-jm) – A 53-year-old man from Cissna Park was killed after his homemade go-kart collided with an SUV. The crash happened at the intersection of County Roads 1300E and 400N near Cissna Park. Sheriff’s deputies said James E. Trent was ejected from his go-kart in the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital by Cissna Park EMS, but later died. The driver of the SUV, 36-year-old Joel M. Kaeb, also of Cissna Park, was not hurt. The Illinois State Police is assisting the Iroquois County Sheriff’s deputies in investigating the crash.

(Urbana-jm) – A 31-year-old man from Champaign will spend six decades in prison for molesting children more than a decade ago. Francisco Domingo Castaneda was convicted by a jury in April on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, stemming from two separate incidents in 2009 where he sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl. Now an adult, the victim of those sex acts came forward with another victim to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in 2020. A judge sentenced Domingo Castaneda to 30 years in prison for each count. Because Domingo Castaneda committed these crimes in separate instances, those sentences will run consecutively. He has been credited 21 months for time already served. Prosecutors had asked for 100 years.
