Concerns over inflation have made many rethink travel during the summer

(Springfield-jm) – 15 Illinois counties are now at high community levels for COVID-19 infection. Nearly 37 thousand new COVID cases were reported this past week, which is an overall decline from the previous week. Still, there are areas with increased virus activity. The “high level” areas include Chicago, Cook, surrounding counties in northeastern Illinois as well as counties around Peoria. Another 30 are considered at medium community levels. (Dupage County-jm) – The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed the first mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile virus in Illinois in 2022. The DuPage County Health Department collected a positive mosquito batch on May 24, from Roselle in DuPage. No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported so far this year. Common symptoms include fever, nausea, headache and muscle aches.

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois courts want to hear feedback from the public about holding proceedings remotely. A task force under the Illinois Judicial Conference is launching two surveys, one for the public and one for legal professionals, says State Appellate Court Justice Mary Rochford…

(Springfield-jm) – Legislation awaiting the governor’s signature aims to increase access to prostate cancer screening without co-pays or other cost-sharing in Illinois. House Bill 5318 would require private insurers in Illinois to provide all qualifying male policyholders with an annual prostate cancer screening upon the recommendations of a physician. The American Urological Association estimates that more than 10,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.

 

(Springfield-jm) – Illinois Conservation Police are boosting water patrols for the Memorial Day weekend. Lieutenant Curt Lewis says they will hae as many boats as they can staff out on the water, looking for drunk drivers and others not following the law…

(Undated-jm) – According to new U.S. Census data, cities and towns in Illinois lost more than 104,000 people in the 12 months up to July 1, 2021. Nearly half of Illinois’ loss was from Chicago. There were big winners in Illinois, but even bigger losers. By total population, the top three gains in Illinois were Yorkville, Montgomery and Champaign, which all gained less than 1,000 people. The top three cities with the greatest losses were Chicago, which lost over 45,000, Cicero, and Arlington Heights.
