(Watseka-jm) – Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum is releasing the name of an inmate that was found unresponsive in his cell. Cheatum identified the inmate as 32-year-old Apolinar Solis Jr. of Hoopeston. Solis was found in a holding cell by Iroquois County Correctional Officers who were booking him into jail on an arrest warrant. Preliminary autopsy findings show that there were no unidentified natural diseases and no evidence of significant or internal trauma that caused Solis’ death. Toxicology results are pending.

 

(Undated-jm) – The number of Illinois counties that now have medium COVID-19 community transmission has nearly doubled in the past week. A total of 23 counties in Illinois are now rated at the medium community level, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Local counties include: Champaign, Ford, McLean and DeWitt. The state reported over 40,000 cases in the past week.

(Undated-jm) – A couple of school boards around the area meet tonight. In Gilman at 7, the Iroquois West school board will discuss the Illinois State Board of Education’s consolidated district plan, discuss playground equipment in Gilman and discuss sex ed standards. In Mahomet at 7, the Mahomet Seymour school board will discuss updates to the student-parent handbook and consider hiring a construction manager.

(Springfield-jm) – A nutrition and wellness expert at the University of Illinois Extension is offering some tips to slow down muscle loss as you age. After age 30, our bodies become less efficient at building and maintaining muscle, says the Extension’s Diane Reinhold. Some people are at higher risk than others…

 

 

U of I Extension’s Diane Reinhold. Reinhold says that’s why it's important to develop habits early like exercising and eating healthy. She suggests both walking and strength training to help retain muscle and eating plenty of lean protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy. Foods rich in Vitamin-D are particularly helpful.

 

(Champaign-jm) –  The Champaign Police Department is investigating after shots were fired at the intersection of Bradley and McKinley Avenues Sunday afternoon. Officers were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers determined that multiple people were firing at each other and left the area before they arrived.

 

(Sibley-jm) – Firefighters from Sibley and Gibson City battled a barn fire Saturday afternoon. Crews were called out just before 4:30 to the fire at 950 north 300 East. No word on the cause of the fire.
