Eight candidates have filed to be the next governor of Illinois

(Urbana-jm) – A man who drove a truck into the Champaign County Satellite Jail was sentenced to 10 years at the Illinois Department of Corrections. Yevgeni Nikolaev was arrested last July after a police chase   involving him crashing into the jail. He reached a plea deal and was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated assault and vehicular invasion. The Champaign County state’s attorney said Nikolaev was a known meth-addict and was believed to have been on the drug the day of the crash.

 

(Springfield-jm) – Governor J-B Pritzker is signing a package of new laws to further address teacher shortages in Illinois. One new law reduces the reinstatement fees for a lapsed teaching license from $500 to $50 says the Governor…

(Springfield-jm) – Eight candidates have filed to be the next governor of Illinois. Governor J-B Pritzker only has one democratic challenger, Beverly Mills. The Republican race, however, is a bit more crowded. There are six men vying for the top spot: Max Solomon, Jesse Sullivan, Darren Bailey, Richard Irvin, Gary Rabine and Paul Schimpf. They will face off in the primary on June 28, 2022. The one who gets the most votes for each party will advance to the general primary in November.

(Champaign-jm) – This weekend, runners will be taking to the streets for the Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend. That means there will be changes in traffic for drivers. Race organizers provided information regarding the courses. They said all races will start and end on the University of Illinois campus. It will start near the State Farm Center and run through all sides of the university’s campus as well as some neighborhoods in Champaign and Urbana. They will then finish at Memorial Stadium, according to the race website.

 

(Springfield-jm) – Democratic Illinois lawmakers and Governor J-B Pritzker passed a historic budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget includes some tax relief and a small stimulus. 53rd District State Senator Jason Barickman calls it election gimmicks…

(Champaign-jm) – First Busey Corp. reported first-quarter earnings of $28.4 million. The Champaign, Illinois-based bank said it had earnings of 51 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 52 cents per share. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 51 cents per share. The bank holding company posted revenue of $111.9 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $105.8 million, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $102.8 million.

(Springfield-jm) – With the statewide ballot certified, Democratic and Republican voters in the June 28 primary will have choices for Illinois Secretary of State. Incumbent Democratic Secretary of State Jesse White isn’t seeking reelection. Democrats Sidney Moore, David Moore, Alexi Giannoulias and Anna Valencia are seeking the party’s nomination. The two on the Republican ballot are John Milhiser and Dan Brady.

(Danville-jm) – The number of criminal offenses in the City of Danville has gone down since 2018. City officials recently reported the number of crimes that happened in Danville in 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2018. These crimes fall under eight categories including criminal homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault/aggravated battery, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson. According to the data in the reports, there were 12 criminal homicide cases in 2018 and 9 cases in 2021. The number of aggravated assault/aggravated battery incidents in 2018 was 391 and it went down to 213 incidents in 2021. In other words, there is a 25 percent decrease in homicide cases in 2021 compared to 2018 and a nearly 46 percent decrease in aggravated assault/aggravated battery cases in 2021 compared to 2018.

(Champaign-jm) –  Champaign's city council said it plans to provide over $3 million to run a year-round emergency shelter for the local homeless population.  The funding is for running the shelter and having operations up and running by the winter. The shelter will be set up as part of a partnership between city leaders and Champaign Township.
