Governor J-B Pritzker is signing a new state budget into law

(Springfield-jm) – Governor J-B Pritzker is signing a new state budget into law, a plan he says offers one point eight billion dollars in tax relief for Illinoisans. The Governor says this historic, responsible budget includes direct rebate checks for working families, enacts a one week back to school sales tax holiday and suspends the tax on groceries for one year…

 

 

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. The budget increases college map grant funding and mental health and substance abuse services. It also invests more money in workforce training programs and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. 

 

(Springfield-jm) – Masks are no longer required on public transportation in Illinois. In light of Monday’s federal court ruling, the Governor is amending a current executive order so that you won’t have to wear a mask riding public transit, in a transit station or at the airport. He noted local officials could set their own rules…

(Danville-jm) – A casino coming to central Illinois is coming to life. Crews broke ground on the Golden Nugget casino in Danville Tuesday. It’s been in the works for over 20 years. They hope to open in March of next year.

 

(Rantoul-tr) – The village of Rantoul is looking to expand its multi-use path. Rantoul Mayor Chuck Smith says the expansion will allow more parts of Rantoul to be connected and provide  more bike paths …

(Champaign-jm) –  Champaign Police officials said they are looking into a situation involving shots fired over the weekend. It happened near Main and Walnut streets around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers responded to a report of shots fired. When they got there, they found shell casings in a parking lot near the intersection. Officials said there were no reports of anyone being hurt or any properties damaged in the incident. However, officers are continuing to investigate.

 

(Vermilion County-jm) – The Village of Potomac and Vermilion County’s Juvenile Detention Center will be receiving some of the federal COVID relief money the county is receiving. Potomac will receive just over $91-thousand dollars for a water meter replacement project. The Danville Public Building Commission will receive $100-thousand dollars from the county’s COVID relief funds for new cameras and locks at the Vermilion County Juvenile Detention Center.

Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton. The budget funds the hiring of more DCFS workers and 300 new Illinois State Police troopers. There’s 30 million for a violent crime witness protection program and another 30 million to help local police departments purchase body cameras.

 

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Department of Transportation is asking the public to think before you throw. IDOT is increasing efforts to clean up debris along the roads of Illinois, and urges everyone to do their part to reduce litter, says Spokesperson Paul Wappel…

(Champaign-jm) – A pedestrian was hurt after they were hit by a car. Champaign Police were dispatched to the intersection of Stanage Avenue and Randolph Street at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday in response to a report of an accident with injuries. A police investigation revealed that a car was turning northbound onto Randolph Street when it hit a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian received minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital out of an abundance of caution. According to officers, the driver was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

 

(Roberts-tr) – The village of Roberts is currently facing a series of water issues. Roberts Mayor Matt Vaughan says the repairs are long overdue…

(Rantoul-jm) – A Rantoul Township High School student has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for bringing a loaded gun to the school. 16 year old Dean Cavett Jr pleaded guilty in Champaign County court to unlawful use of a weapon. He admitted to bringing the gun to the school on March 3rd, however, authorities don’t believe he intended to use it on anyone at the school.

 

(Champaign-jm) – The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is making masks optional on fixed-route, ADA paratransit, C-CARTS, and at all MTD facilities including Illinois Terminal. The order will go into effect immediately and comes after the federal Transportation Security Administration lifted its security directive mandating masks on public transportation conveyances and hubs on Monday.
