(Washington-jm) – The Internal Revenue Service said refunds totaling almost $55 million may be waiting for 55,767 Illinois taxpayers who did not file a federal income tax return for 2018.  About half of those potential refunds could be $840 or more, the IRS said. Refunds totaling more than $1.5 billion may be waiting for 1.5 million people nationwide who did not file a federal income tax return for 2018.

(Roberts-jm) – Roberts residents could be paying more on their water bills. Village trustees will be asked to approve a $9 rate increase at their meeting on April 4th. Residents will see their base rate increase from $40 to $49. The village is looking to raise rates to replace 178 water meters in the village. That’s estimated to cost around $130,000.

 

(Champaign-jm) – The Department of Transportation announced that construction will resume on Interstate 74 to replace two bridges — one over Market Street and another over the Canadian National Railway yard in Champaign — starting Saturday. On April 3, two-way traffic on I-74 will shift to the eastbound lanes while the westbound portions of the bridges are built. Work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.

(Champaign-jm) –  The Champaign County History Museum has accumulated several accolades. The museum was also awarded three additional Awards of Excellence in the categories of Exhibits, Conservation, and Community Partnership.  The Award of Excellence in Exhibits was presented for the exhibit William McKinley’s Road of Good Service, focusing on the transformative power of electric rail service across Central Illinois. The Award for Excellence in Conservation was presented for the transformation of the museum's research library. It now offers the public a fully accessible and online research tool for community history. The Award for Excellence in Community Partnership was presented for a partnership with the Champaign Park District to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Virginia Theatre.

(Chicago-jm) – Democrats are considering Chicago as a potential host for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Many prominent Illinois Democrats are leading the response to the Democratic National Committee, including DNC Vice Chair Sen. Tammy Duckworth, according to Tarrah Cooper Wright, CEO of Rise Strategy Group — who is helping support the bid. Chicago last hosted the Democratic National Convention in 1996 at the United Center.

 

(Paxton–jc) – Paxton Park District officials are hoping that fundraising efforts will help the group and its board decide whether the Paxton Park District pool will open this Spring and Summer. Costs to maintain and operate the facility runs thousands of dollars each year.  Park district officials will be on hand tomorrow from 10am to 12-30pm to provide tours of the pool and also to provide information about the pool operation.  Former Pool lifeguard, Tessa Pilcher says one way to help raise money is with a “Go Fund Me” fundraiser…

(Champaign-jm) – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is now offering people an additional COVID-19 booster shot if they meet the eligibility criteria. The FDA had previously approved a fourth COVID dose for only people aged 12 and older with severely weakened immune systems. On Tuesday, the FDA expanded eligibility for a fourth dose to everyone aged 50 and older. The CDC subsequently recommended a fourth dose as long as recipients are four months removed from their third dose.
