(Springfield-jm) – A bacteria that can cause Legionnaires’ disease has been detected at two Illinois Department of Corrections facilities. The Illinois Department of Public Health and Department of Corrections on Friday announced legionella bacteria was detected during routine water testing at the Stateville and Joliet Treatment Center facilities. Currently, no inmates or staff at either facility are exhibiting symptoms of the disease and all potentially affected individuals in custody have been notified.

(Champaign-jm) – The Champaign Fire Department responded to a house fire early Sunday afternoon. Firefighters arrived at 2509 Maplewood Drive at 2:24 p.m. on Sunday and found a fire in the house’s kitchen. They deployed several hose lines and were able to extinguish the fire. The fire was attributed to cooking. No firefighters or house occupants were injured, but the occupants will be displaced as a result of the damage.

(Undated-jm) – The crop numbers are in and central Illinois topped the state in yields last year. For soybeans, Piatt County came in on top with 76.1 bushels per acre. Champaign County came in second at 74.2 bushels per acre. Macon, Moultire and Sangamon Counties rounded out the top 5. DeWitt County 69.6, Vermilion County 66.3, Ford County 65.8 and Iroquois County 56.9. As for corn, Champaign County led the state with 222.4 bushels per acre. Piatt County 212.8, DeWitt County 209.2, Ford County 199, Vermilion County 196.9 and Iroquois County 194.2.

(Washington-jm) – Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis has introduced legislation that creates a loan program to incentivize new investments in rural areas. The Rural Investment in America Act would provide enhanced lending authority to the Small Business Administration to provide loans to businesses that manufacture goods in industrial parks by offering partial loan forgiveness. To qualify, a business must establish a new presence or expand in a rural area industrial park.

(Rantoul-jm) – A Rantoul man who shot in self defense has been sentenced to a year probation after pleading guilty to a single count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. 52 year old Antonio Davis received the sentence after pleading guilty in February in connection to the August 9th shooting death of Blake Williams of Buckley. Williams forced his way into Davis’ Rantoul home and got into a struggle with Davis before Davis shot him with a shotgun.
