The mastermind of an attempt to set the Champaign Women's Health Practice on fire has pleaded guilty to the charges

(Urbana-jm) – The mastermind of an attempt to set the Champaign Women’s Health Practice on fire has pleaded guilty to the charges against her.

In federal court, Emily Claire Hari, formerly known as Michael Hari, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by threats and violence, attempted arson, unlawful possession of a machine gun and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Hari remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing in the Central District of Illinois. She faces five to 20 years in prison for the attempted arson of the Women’s health practice, a maximum of 20 years for conspiracy to interfere with commerce and a maximum of ten years for the gun charges.

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Governor Pritzker says the state will continue fighting to keep the mask mandate in place for Illinois schools. Any federal and local mask rules will apply and masks will still be required in places like mass transit, healthcare settings, long term care facilities, prisons and daycares. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,742 new cases and 109 additional deaths Wednesday. Champaign County reported 135 new cases and 1 additional death. Vermilion County reported 110 new cases and 1 additional death.

 

(Undated-jm) – All Secretary of State offices and facilities in the state of Illinois will be closed on Friday in observance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, an official state holiday. Offices and facilities operating on a Monday through Friday schedule will reopen on February 14.

 

(Springfield-jm) – Governor J-B Pritzker has been visiting colleges in Illinois, touting his proposed increase in higher education funding. The additional 208 million dollars the Governor wants to see allocated to colleges and universities in the next fiscal year would cover things like more MAP grants and higher award amounts…

(Gilman-jm) – A Gilman man has been sentenced to 2 years probation on child sex and drug charges in Livingston County. Rocky Nelson pleaded guilty to delivering meth and indecent solicitation of a child. In exchange for his guilty plea, two other felony charges were dropped. 

 

(Washington-jm) – USDA has reduced its corn and soybean forecasts for Brazil and Argentina, but the cuts may have been less than some analysts had expected.  Gary Crawford reports…

 

 

(Springfield-jm) – Death threats to Illinois lawmakers have prompted Speaker of the House Chris Welch to call on other political leaders for help. Speaker Welch sent Minority Leader Jim Durkin a letter asking for help to tamp down hateful rhetoric. Welch asked Durkin to urge civility while Durkin urged Welch to allow the voices of the minority party to be heard.

 

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois State Board of Education is announcing more than two million dollars in grants to help districts attract new teachers. The “Grow your Own” grants help districts build a local pipeline of teachers by reaching out to high schoolers interested in a career in education. ISBE’s Dr Jennifer Kirmes says the best programs include coursework and hands on experience…

(Cissna Park-jm) – Cissna Park is the latest Iroquois County community that could be relying on the sheriff’s office for law enforcement. The community is working with the county on plans to have the sheriff’s office patrol the village 40 hours a week. County leaders worry what the expansion of adding communities pursuing patrol help from the county will do to the budgets.
