Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services Medicaid Administrator Kelly Cunningham. Recommendations for change include increased funding, especially to help hire more workers and offer better pay to reduce turnover. Cunningham says they also want to move to a patient driven payment model in hopes of motivating nursing homes to offer higher levels of care.

Generally, the COVID-19 situation in Illinois is better now than it was a few weeks ago, with fewer people testing positive for the virus and new cases slowly declining, says Governor J-B Pritzker. But he reminds those aren’t the only factors…

 

 

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Governor Pritzker cites recent case and hospitalization surges in nearby Minnesota and Michigan as a concern. The latest daily totals for Illinois include nearly 25 hundred new cases and 16 hundred COVID patients in the hospital. Locally, Champaign County reported 31 new cases and 2 additional deaths bringing their total number of COVID deaths to 201. Vermilion County reported 90 new cases. Ford and Iroquois Counties did not have a report.

 

 

(Champaign County-jm) -- With the eviction moratorium come and gone, community activists have been calling on the Champaign County sheriff to halt evictions. The role the sheriff has in evictions is to serve the eviction notice and then enforce the eviction if it is ordered by a judge. The group wants the sheriff’s office to serve the notices.

(Springfield-jm) -- Governor J-B Pritzker is announcing more than 15 million dollars in funding to boost the development of wet labs across the state. Eight facilities will benefit from the grant money, which will help fund construction of new wet lab space. The labs are used to conduct research in areas like Biotechnology, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. It’s an industry that needs to continue to grow, says the Governor…

 

 

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Private funding will bring the total investment to 90 million dollars. Schools and facilities receiving the money include the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, both Southern Illinois University campuses and the University of Illinois Research Park.

(Vermilion County-jm) -- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in recognition of the month, the Vermilion County State's Attorney' Office is hosting a supply drive.  The drive will supply and benefit the Crosspoint Human Services Domestic Violence Transitional Center.  Purple donations boxes will be placed at various locations including the Vermilion County Administration Building, McDonald's North Vermilion location and Crosspoint at the Y.  Items needed include men's and young men's hygiene products, baby products, pillow cases, sheets and other toiletries. The drive will run throughout the entire month of October.

The Iroquois County Public Health Department will host a flu shot clinic today from 10:30-noon at the Clifton Community Center.

 

The Ford County Public Health Department will host a flu shot clinic this afternoon from 2-4 pm at the health department in Paxton.

 

The Rantoul Public Library will host an outdoor movie behind the library tonight at 6:50 pm showing The House with a Clock in its Walls.

 

Paxton IGA will be hosting their cookout benefiting York Rite of Paxton on Saturday  from 10 to 2.
