Governor J-B Pritzker is warning that significantly stricter measures will be put back into place if COVID-19 numbers don't improve

(Springfield-jm) -- The Senate and House Redistricting Committees will hold a series of public hearings to consider potential changes to legislative boundaries following information recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. There will be at least seven hearings taking place through the end of this month.

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. The Governor didn’t provide specifics but did say that could include something like the previous phases and statewide or regional restrictions. For now, he encourages everyone to wear a mask in indoor public settings. Illinois reported 2,989 new cases and 15 additional deaths. Locally, Vermilion County reported 98 new cases and 4 additional deaths. Champaign County reported 51 new cases and 3 additional deaths. Ford and Iroquois Counties did not have a report.

 

 

(Minneapolis-jm) -- The militia leader convicted of masterminding the bombing of a Minnesota mosque is asking a judge to legally acknowledge her transgender identity. Emily Claire Hari was previously known as Michael Hari from Clarence. Hari was found guilty last year of civil rights and hate crime charges in the bombing of the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington in August 2017. Hari's attorney is asking a judge to sentence her to no more than the minimum 30 years in prison, not the life sentence that prosecutors requested. Sentencing is set for September 13th.

(Watseka-jm) -- The Iroquois County Public Health Department is partnering with Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka to put on several Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The clinics will take every Wednesday morning starting this morning running through the month of September from 7-9 am.

(Springfield-jm) -- Numbers from the Illinois Department of Transportation show Black Illinoisans get pulled over 2.7 times more often than white Illinoisans in 2020. Those numbers according to the N double A C P have been steady over the past 15 years. Some communities including Champaign, Urbana and Bloomington are higher than the 2.7.

 

(Urbana-jm) -- The woman accused of aggravated DUI in a crash that killed a University of Illinois Police lieutenant was in court on Tuesday. Logan Freed was arraigned on two counts of aggravated driving under the influence. Champaign Police say 25-year-old Logan Freed was driving westbound on Church Street on Sunday night when she disobeyed a traffic light causing a collision in the intersection with another vehicle. That vehicle was then forced into the southbound lane of Prospect Avenue and hit a motorcycle. U of I Police Lt. Aaron Landers was driving that motorcycle. He died Monday from his injuries.

(Urbana-jm) -- More than 1,200 K-12 schools across the state have signed up to use the SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 saliva test for the start of the 2021-22 academic year. More than 650,000 students in Illinois will now have access to the test, pioneered by researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Illinois Department of Public Health recently expanded access to free SHIELD testing to all K-12 public schools statewide outside of Chicago.
