Gibson City leaders approved spending 100 thousand dollars to help with recovery efforts

(Undated-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 9,126 Coronavirus cases since Friday and 30 additional deaths. The seven day positivity rate has risen to 6 percent. Locally since last week, Iroquois County reported 43 new cases bringing their total to 3,445. Vermilion County reported 148 new cases and 2 additional deaths, bringing their total number of cases to 10,878 and deaths to 158. Champaign County reported 219 new cases and 1 additional death bringing their total number of cases to 22,863 and deaths to 165. Ford County did not have a report.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Four new state laws are designed to further protect Illinois seniors. One law extends the sale of the lottery’s Alzheimer’s scratch-off ticket which raises money for awareness and care. Another, hits close to home for Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, whose mom’s Alzheimer's went undiagnosed until it was at a very advanced stage…

(Rural Paxton-jm) -- Paxton firefighters were called to a vehicle fire Monday. Crews were called to the fire on 500 North between 1 and 2 miles west of Paxton. No injuries were reported.

Gibson City residents and businesses continue to recover from devastating flood waters from last Thursday.  The money comes from a special fund set up by local leaders. (Gibson City-jm) -- Governor J-B Pritzker is requesting a federal review of damage assessments in Ford County following last week's floods. The assessments, which are tentatively scheduled to begin on August 18, could provide the documentation necessary to support a request for federal assistance. 

 

(Gifford-jm) -- An area bank has made a donation to a school supply drive. Gifford State Bank recently donated $500 to Country Health and Rehab’s school supply drive to help purchase school supplies for area kids.

(Buckley-jm) -- The village of Buckley has a new ordinance control officer. Terry Whitebird was hired for the position. Chris White, the village’s former police officer handled ordinance complaints up until he was fired earlier this year.

(Paxton-jm) -- The Ford County Board will meet this afternoon for a special meeting where they are expected to issue a disaster declaration following flooding in the Gibson City and Elliott areas. Damage assessment crews spent the weekend in those communities assessing damage. Those with damage that did not receive a visit can call the Ford County Emergency Management Agencies Emergency Operations Center at 217-379-9498 or 217-379-9499.

 

(Urbana-jm) -- A proposal passed by State Senator Scott Bennett of Champaign requiring pharmaceutical companies to post a notice informing consumers that they may request current pharmacy retail prices at the point of sale was signed into law by Governor J-B Pritzker.  Customers will also be told the retail price of a prescription drug, both in writing and electronically, prior to purchase.
