New COVID-19 cases in Illinois Tuesday hit the highest daily total since early May

(Rantoul-jm) -- Rantoul police are releasing more information on a shooting that happened in the village Tuesday morning. Police were called to the 600 block of Autumn Fields Lane just before noon. When they arrived they found a house that had been struck by gunfire. Witnesses told police a small white vehicle pulled up in front of the residence and opened fire. New cameras in the area identified the vehicle and officers sent out that description. A Champaign County deputy spotted the vehicle trying to get on I-74 at Urbana. Four suspects jumped from the vehicle and were apprehended at the Urbana Country Club golf course. 19 year old Patrick Biggs of Urbana, 22 year old Williams Laws of Atlanta Georgia, 20 year old Teron Laws of Atlanta Georgia and a 15 year old were arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and vehicular invasion.

 

 

(Rantoul-jm) -- The second suspect involved in a July 4th shooting in Rantoul that left five people injured including two kids has been arrested. A 16 year old has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. Police say the 16 year old and 18 year old Teigan Hunt of Urbana allegedly fired shots at a group of people on South Maplewood Drive on the 4th. 

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- New COVID-19 cases in Illinois Tuesday hit the highest daily total since early May. The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 2,6682 new and probable cases, a level not seen since May 7th. But more people have been getting tested and vaccinations are increasing as well over the past week. Governor J-B Pritzker repeated his call for people to be cautious…

 

 

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Nearly 59 percent of the Illinois population age 12 and up is now fully vaccinated. All but seven counties are currently at “substantial” or “high” levels of virus transmission.

 

 

(Urbana-jm) -- The man accused of killing a local 14-year-old boy was in court again on Tuesday. Daryl Vandyke was arraigned on three counts of first-degree murder involving an axe or edged tool. Police say he killed Steven Butler III after the boy was reported missing late last week. Vandyke is being held on a $2 million bond. He is due back in court September 14th.

(Gibson City-jm) -- Gibson City police have released their recent activity report. On July 27th, Brett Thomas of Fisher was arrested and charged with possession of hypodermic needles and driving while license suspended. On July 29th, Grace Dieu of Gibson City was arrested for domestic battery. On July 31st, Juanita Kesterton of Melvin was arrested for DUI and improper parking on a roadway.

 

 

(Paxton-jm) -- The Paxton Buckley Loda Hall of Fame will induct two members next month. Robert Frump and the late Harold Eugene Kenny are the latest to be inducted. They were supposed to be inducted last year but because of the pandemic, the induction was pushed back. Frump is an author and journalist. Kenny is a former U of I Wrestling Coach. The induction ceremony will take place in September.

(Ford County-jm) -- Ford County deputies responded to 14 traffic accidents during the month of July. Deputies issued 7 citations for speeding, 5 for failure to reduce speed, 4 for DUI, 2 each for leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended or revoked license and construction zone speed limit violation and 1 each for improper lane usage, failure to report an accident and not wearing a seatbelt. Deputies also responded to 9 domestic issues, 8 suspicious activities, 4 custody disputes, 3 reports of harassment and 1 each of trespassing, abuse, fight in progress, theft and stolen vehicle.

 

 

(Champaign-jm) -- Parkland College is helping residents sign up for Fall 2021 classes both at the campus and virtually through a one-stop enrollment services event. The Fall Enrollment Blitz will run August 11th through 20th 8-5 at the student union.
