The National Weather Service is launching new weather warning categories

(Springfield-jm) -- COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Illinois. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the number of cases has increased by 46 percent over the past seven days and hospitalizations are up by 35 percent. The latest figures from the CDC show more than 58 percent of Illinoisans are now fully vaccinated. Locally Friday Champaign County reported 38 new cases. Ford County reported 8 new cases. Iroquois and Vermilion Counties did not have a report. As for local vaccination numbers, Champaign County is at 49 percent fully vaccinated, Vermilion County 32 percent. Ford County 40 percent and Iroquois County 35 percent.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- The National Weather Service is launching new weather warning categories to better reflect the strength of an incoming storm. Starting Monday, forecasters will be adding damage threat categories to any severe weather warnings, including “considerable” and “destructive” damage. State Climatologist Trent Ford says this should give the public a clearer picture of what’s in store, since not all storms are created equal…

(Danville-jm) -- A second bird has tested positive for West Nile in Vermilion County. The health department says the bird was found on Danville’s west side.

(Undated-jm) -- Several area school districts are receiving funding from state library grant program awards. Cissna Park Schools are receiving $3,850. Hoopeston Area Schools are receiving $988, Mahomet Seymour Schools are receiving $2,796, PBL $1,146, Rantoul City Schools $1,486, Fisher, Iroquois West, GCMS, Milford, Rantoul Township High School, St. Joseph Community and St. Joseph Ogden High School each received $850.

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Secretary of State Jesse White’s Office is making some changes to ease heavy customer volume in Illinois Driver’s Services Facilities. Long lines have been a problem at some d-m-v’s across the state, so Secretary White is expanding the remote renewal process. This will let one million more people renew their driver’s license or ID card online, by phone or mail, says Spokesperson Beth Kaufman…

(Undated-jm) -- The second installment of tax bills are due next month. The second installment for Ford County residents is due September 10th. For Iroquois County residents the second installment is due September 7th.

(Paxton-jm) -- Two Paxton residents have been arrested for sex crimes. Caden Miller was arrested for criminal sexual assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly having sex with an underage girl. Preston Braaten was arrested for criminal sexual abuse and solicitation for allegedly trying to force himself upon a female.

 

OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center’s Diabetes Support Group will meet on Tuesday, August 3rd from 6-7 pm.

 

The Iroquois County Public Health Department will host a Pfizer vaccine clinic on Wednesday, August 4th from 7-9 am.
