(Springfield-jm) -- The State Department of Public Health is reporting nearly eight thousand new and probable cases of COVID-19 over the past week. The most recent seven day total compares to about 44 hundred cases reported the previous week. State Department of Public Health Director Dr Ngozi Ezike. Illinois counties are now at warning levels for the virus based on new cases, hospitalizations and ER visits for COVID like symptoms. Locally Piatt and McLean Counties are in the warning level. Vermilion County reported 12 new cases bringing their total to 10,164. Ford County reported 12 new cases bringing their total to 1,920. Champaign County is now at 21,451 cases and Iroquois County now stands at 3,249.

(Undated-jm) -- Unemployment rates around the area were down in June compared to last year. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the rate in Champaign County went from 10.5 percent in June 2020 to 5.8 percent in June 2021. Ford County’s fell from 9.6 percent to 4.9 percent. Iroquois County’s went from 8.3 percent to 4.7 percent. Vermilion Counties fell from 12.6 percent to 7.1 percent.

 

 

(Urbana-jm) -- A Rantoul man has been sentenced to 3 years probation for his role in a robbery in Rantoul. Angel Quinones received the sentence after pleading guilty in June to attempted aggravated robbery. Quinones and another man tried to rob a person on February 25th.

(Vermilion County-jm) -- The Vermilion County Public Health is reporting a bird in the Ridge Farm area has tested positive for West Nile.

 

(Gibson City-jm) -- Gibson City leaders have approved two facade grants. Country Kettle will get $5,000 while Hull Brothers Contracting will receive $2,568.

(Mahomet-jm) -- The Mahomet Seymour School Board is spending nearly $70,000 to replace the high school track. The contract was awarded to Midwest Track Buildings to replace the track. It will allow the district to host state tournaments in the future.
