(Springfield-jm) -- Two people died and more than two dozen were arrested during Operation Dry Water over the holiday weekend. Illinois Conservation Police patrolled Illinois waterways during the operation, focusing on removing those operating under the influence.

(Rantoul-jm) -- An iconic building in downtown Rantoul is now a pile of rubble. Crews tore down the former bank building at the corner of Sangamon and Garrard. A meeting will be held tomorrow night at 6:30 in downtown Rantoul to discuss what to do with the space.

(Hoopeston-jm) -- A Hoopeston man is behind bars on $150,000 bond for allegedly robbing a business over the weekend. Hoopeston Police were called to 112 Wine and Coffee Shoppe for an armed robbery Saturday afternoon. Matthew Hofer was arrested in connection to the robbery.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Winter wheat harvesting is ahead of schedule as we hear in the weekly crop report. There were about three and a half days suitable for fieldwork this past week, says Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener…

Average statewide topsoil moisture is rated at three percent very short, 13 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus.

(Springfield-jm) -- None of the more than $8 billion the state of Illinois got from federal taxpayers is going to the state’s unemployment debt some have projected to be nearly that much. Illinois Retail Merchants Association’s Rob Karr said the interest could be up to $60 million if the debt isn’t paid off. If federal funds aren’t used to pay the debt, Karr said there’ll likely be tax increases on employers, benefit reductions or both.

(Urbana-jm) -- Illinois State Police are investigating after a person was shot on I-74 in Urbana yesterday afternoon. State Police say the shooting happened on I-74 at Lincoln Avenue. The victim, a 22 year old Rantoul man, is expected to survive.

 

 

(Penfield-jm) -- The 2021 Historic Farm Days gets underway tomorrow at the grounds in Penfield. This year’s featured tractors include Massey Ferguson, BF Avery and Minneapolis Moline. I and I Historic Farm Days President Chuck Stelter says they will have tractor pulls again this year…

(Ford County-jm) -- A Will County man is in the Ford County jail after he allegedly stole three vehicles and led police on a chase Saturday. Paxton police were called to a report of an abandoned vehicle near Just Hamburgers. That vehicle was determined to be stolen, witnesses told police Nicholas Czarny of Lockport, left that vehicle and stole a second one. That vehicle was found abandoned near Ludlow and another vehicle was reported stolen. That evening police were called to Casey’s in regard to a theft. Czarny was seen leaving as police arrived and a chase ensued. He allegedly struck a Paxton police car in the process of fleeing. Gibson City police used spike strips to end the chase near Route 9 and 500. Czarny escaped on foot and was later apprehended early Sunday morning. He faces multiple felony charges including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, motor vehicle theft, criminal damage to state-supported property and aggravated fleeing and eluding police. He’s also charged with retail theft, reckless driving, driving on a revoked or suspended driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.
