(Springfield-jm) -- Illinois received a C- for infrastructure in a new report from President Joe Biden's American Jobs Plan. The new report states, infrastructure in Illinois has suffered from a systemic lack of investment. It adds that Illinois has 2,374 bridges and 6,218 miles of highway in poor condition.

Phishing emails are sent by scam artists hoping to get you to reveal your personal information. The state’s Chief Information Officer, Chris Britten says the message may appear to be from someone you know or a company you do business with, but if anything looks off, be on alert. He recommends this trick…

Britten advises never clicking on a link sent in an email just to be safe. Instead, if it’s from someplace like your bank or Amazon, open up a new tab and go straight to the company’s website.

 

(Undated-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,193 new Coronavirus cases and 17 additional deaths Tuesday bringing the state’s total number of cases to 1,285,398 and deaths to 21,540. Champaign County reported 38 new cases bringing their total to 19,501. Iroquois County reported 5 new cases bringing their total to 2,895. Vermilion County reported 25 new cases bringing their total to 8,924. Ford County did not have a report Tuesday.

 

 

(Rantoul-jm) -- Firefighters from several departments were called to a fire in Rantoul Tuesday evening. Crews were called to the fire in Maplewood Estates mobile home park just after 7pm. No word on the cause of the fire. Rantoul, Gifford and Thomasboro responded to the fire.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Illinois leaders will be discussing how to spend the $13 billion the state is receiving following the passage of the American Rescue Plan. Governor Pritzker and some Republican members of the General Assembly including 106th District State Representative Tom Bennett of Gibson City, believe the money should go towards paying down the state’s backlog of bills…

(Champaign-jm) -- Champaign County residents who are 16 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, which includes U of I students. University officials are working with the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District on possible vaccine clinics in the future. An additional shipment of 20,000 doses has been requested from the state to help get U of I students vaccinated.

The East Moline Correctional Center is open for families to visit their incarcerated loved ones now, and the other locations will soon follow. (Springfield-jm) -- A study ranked Illinois in the top five nationally for marijuana taxes generated in 2020. The U.S. Drug Test Centers study on Marijuana Economics and Usage by State found Illinois ranked No. 5 in marijuana taxes with $175 million during the 2020 year. In addition, adult and youth marijuana usage increased. Adults who used marijuana in Illinois "in the last month" grew by 39% since 2015 and youth ages 12-17 increased by 4%. The study said the $175 million in 2020 Illinois taxes made up .4% of total Illinois revenue.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is encouraging families to include their kids in any disaster planning. Emergency plans should keep in mind the unique needs of children. As for local active and recovered cases, Champaign County reported 18,960 have recovered, 403 are in isolation and 12 are hospitalized. Iroquois County reported 2,810 have been released from isolation, 22 are in isolation and 2 are hospitalized. Vermilion County reported 31 active cases and 4 are hospitalized.

 

 

(Mahomet-jm) -- An accident in Mahomet caused a gas leak and a portion of Route 150 to be closed for several hours. Crews say a teen with a driving permit was driving with his parents when he accidentally hit a gas feed to a building causing the leak. Traffic on Route 150 had to be diverted while crews fixed the leak.

For the Illinois Soybean Program, petitions are available for District 11 which includes Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar and Piatt Counties. For the Illinois Wool and Sheep Marketing, petitions are available for District 2 which includes, Champaign, Clark, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, Kendall, Livingston, Piatt, Vermilion and Will Counties. To be nominated, you must be at least 18 and reside in the district. Nominations must be submitted by July 6th.
