March cannabis sales broke records with retailers selling $109.1 million

(Springfield-jm) -- After a slump in February where cannabis sales were down more than $8 million from the month before, March sales broke records with retailers selling $109.1 million worth of adult-use cannabis products. That brings the total sold since January 2020 to nearly $950 million. The state has collected more than $233.5 million in taxes from legal sales since sales began in 2020.

State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener. Two percent of winter wheat has headed and 74 percent of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition. Pasture conditions are rated as 58 percent in good to excellent shape.

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,102 new cases and 11 additional deaths Monday bringing the state’s total number of cases to 1,258,736 and deaths to 21,384. Locally since Friday Champaign County reported 130 new cases bringing their total to 19,181. Iroquois County reported 4 new cases bringing their total to 2,864. Vermilion County reported 33 new cases and 1 additional death, a woman in her 70s, bringing their total number of cases to 8,863 and deaths to 123. Ford County did not have a report Monday.

(Hoopeston-jm) -- A Hoopeston man was arrested after police say he attempted to enter a residence over the weekend. Police were called to the 400 block of West Lincoln Street. When they arrived they found the resident of the home and his two sons had chased down the suspect, 21 year old Chase Hensley. He is charged with criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property.

(Champaign-jm) -- Champaign based Parkland College is receiving $862,000 for ADA upgrades and door replacement. The funds come from Governor Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois plan.

(Springfield-jm) -- The Department of Children and Family Services is supposed to provide safe places for children who weren't safe in their own homes, but new reports are showing that cases of maltreatment in care are double the rate Illinois is aiming for. "Maltreatment in care" is how the department describes when a child continues suffering abuse and neglect in foster care, even after being removed from a harmful situation at home. The current rate is 18.5 per 100,000 days in care. The rate the state is aiming for is 9 per 100,000.

As for local active and recovered cases since Friday, Champaign County reported 18,669 have recovered, 374 are in isolation and 10 are hospitalized. Iroquois County reported 2,790 have been released from isolation and 15 remain in isolation. Vermilion County reported 247 active cases and 2 are hospitalized. Ford County did not have a report Monday.

(Paxton-jm) -- The City of Paxton Economic Development committee will meet this week. The committee will meet on Thursday at 7pm where they will discuss how the city will benefit from the new sports complex in Rantoul.
