The State Department of Public Health is reporting nearly 16 hundred new cases, the highest daily total since early June. Public Health Director, Dr Ngozi Ezike says everyone needs to take the threat seriously and not undo the gains Illinois has already made. That includes wearing a mask and socially distancing…

(Undated-jm) -- Locally Vermilion County reported 12 new cases bringing their total number to 125. McLean County reported 9 new cases bringing their total to 441. Livingston County reported 2 new cases bringing their total to 66. Kankakee County reported 34 new cases bringing their total to 1,628. Iroquois County reported 15 new cases bringing their total to 201. Champaign County reported 18 new cases bringing their total to 1,241. Ford County had no new cases.

(Champaign-jm) -- The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program will soon be available to eligible households in Champaign County. The program will begin on Monday, July 27. Households in need of energy assistance are encouraged to apply, especially those with disconnection notices, high past-due balances, and those who have been most affected by wage fluctuations during the pandemic.

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- Four area high schools are among the recipients of a stage grant to recruit future educators. The Pritzker administration announced $2 million in grants to 62 high schools in the state. Among the recipients are Mahomet-Seymour High School, Rantoul Township High School, St. Joseph Ogden High School and Gibson City, Melvin Sibley High School.

(Gibson City-jm) -- Gibson City has a new police captain. Roy Acree takes over for Kaleb Kraft who is retiring July 26th. Acree served as a police officer in Gibson City from 1985 to 1988 before becoming an officer at the University of Illinois. He retired in 2015.

In McLean County 326 have recovered, 68 remain in isolation with 2 hospitalized. In Livingston County, 57 have been removed from isolation with 7 active cases. In Kankakee County, 1,133 have recovered, 432 cases remain active with 10 hospitalized. In Iroquois County, 171 have been released, 23 remain in isolation with 2 hospitalized. In Ford County, 38 have been released and 4 remain in isolation. In Champaign County, 1,033 have recovered, 189 cases remain active with 10 hospitalized.

(Springfield-jm) -- The Pritzker administration is launching a program to reduce housing insecurity for justice involved individuals.The state funding will provide housing placement and rental assistance for 75 participants. The Housing Authority of Champaign County will receive $487,674 to support 15 units in Champaign County.
