Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Illinois is now up to nearly six thousand cases of COVID-19 and 99 deaths. Champaign County is reporting 29 cases. McLean County is reporting 19 cases, Kankakee County 42 cases, Livingston County 3, Iroquois County 2 total and Livingston and Ford County 1 total each.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- As the stay at home order is extended, school doors will remain closed through April 30th as well. Students won’t be reporting to school but Governor J-B Pritzker says districts are working with the state board of education to implement remote learning…

(Springfield-jm) -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has offered guidance for attending funerals, saying there’s no danger in being in the presence of someone who has died from COVID-19, but guidance on crowd restrictions mean well-wishers are possibly putting themselves in danger and, in some states, breaking executive orders.


 

 

(Rantoul--jc)  -- With the governor’s announcement  that money is available to downstate small businesses, some local companies may not qualify. The money was set aside to aid small businesses recover from the financial hardships due to the COVID-19 response. Unfortunately, this program excludes those communities in Illinois who receive direct entitlement through the Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program. That includes Rantoul. Efforts are underway by local leaders to work with HUD to use some of the program dollars in a similar allotment. Rantoul Village leaders will forward that information to local businesses.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- The latest hospital capacity numbers from the Illinois Department of Public Health show the number of beds increasing, but so is the need for those beds. There were 27,465 total non-intensive care unit beds Monday, according to IDPH. That number increased to 28,005 Tuesday, the day after Pritzker announced an additional 500 beds being readied at McCormick Place in Chicago. Of the total beds, 16,202 were occupied. That's an occupancy rate of 58 percent. That’s up from 55 percent on Monday. For ICU beds, there has also been an increase in the total number of available beds. On Monday, the number was 2,578 in total. On Tuesday, there were 2,654 total, of which 1,743 were occupied, a rate of 65.7 percent. That’s up from 59 percent Monday.  Tuesday also saw an update of ventilator numbers. There are now 2,568 ventilators. That’s up from Monday’s total of 2,460. President Donald Trump said Monday that Illinois would get 150 ventilators this week. Of the new total, 1,276 were being used, a rate of 49.7 percent. That’s up from 32 percent reported Monday.

State Conservationist Ivan Dozier announced the U. S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will offer funding for the Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative (MRBI) and the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI). Producers who have agricultural, pasture, or forest land in an Initiative project area can apply for assistance through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to implement a range of conservation practices that will improve water quality, decrease soil erosion, and improve wildlife habitat. The MRBI includes portions of Ford, Iroquois, Livingston and McLean Counties. The deadline to apply is May 1st.

(Springfield-jm) -- In accordance with Governor JB Pritzker's Stay At Home order extension,. The Illinois Gaming Board will also extend the suspension of all video gaming operations at all licensed establishments of any kind and all casino gambling operations in Illinois until at least April 30.

 

(Springfield-jm) -- Unable to meet during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois Joint Commission on Ethics and Lobbying Reforms missed its deadline to provide recommendations to clean up some questionable practices in Springfield, but a member of the commission said it will get back to business. The commission held meetings throughout the first quarter of the year, but hasn't met since March 5. It missed a March 31 deadline to produce a report with recommendations. Another commission state lawmakers created last year, the Illinois Property Tax Relief Task Force, was supposed to produce a report with recommendations by the end of 2019, but that report has never materialized.

(Champaign-jm) -- Parkland College is announcing registration for summer classes is underway. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, summer courses will be online. Register by May 17 for the session that starts May 18, by June 14 for classes that begin June 15 and by July 12 for classes that begin July 13.

(Watseka--jc)  -- There continues to be a shortage of personal protective equipment or P-P-E-s. Iroquois County is hosting a donation drive every Wednesday from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Iroquois County Youth Center, located at 114 North 3rd Street, Watseka to gather necessary supplies for emergency responders and healthcare workers.
